Four people have died after a mid-air collision between two helicopters near Sea World on Australia's Gold Coast.
Queensland Police say initial investigations suggest the crash happened as one aircraft was taking off and the other was landing.
Those who died were travelling in the same helicopter. Three other passengers are in a critical condition.
Five of the six people on the other aircraft, which made an emergency landing, suffered minor injuries.

How is this even possible? how does the passenger see an incoming helicopter and a trained pilot does not? are there not collision avoidance systems in place or is that only for large commercial jets?

Helicopters flight mostly in VFR conditions, meaning it’s the pilot’s job to watch for traffic, they get no vectors from ATC. Now there are collision avoidance systems (TCAS), but it’s only mandatory on relatively larger and (for the most part) commercial aircrafts both in the US and Europe, I don’t know about Australia, but the rule of thumb, AFAIK, is that you can’t trust any GA aircraft to have it.
