Hi, I´m Spanish and I can tell you that people who like this tradition are a decaying minority who is harshly condemned by the rest of the people. I think that this problem will be solved in 20-30 years because people are loosing interest in this kind of shows. There are some places in Spain like Canary Islands (I live there) that it is even forbbiden.

The origin is uncertain, it seems to come from Greco-Roman tradition, the first documents describing bullfights are from the 12th or 13th century, and bullfights as we know them today started in the 18th century. It’s not only a Spanish thing, there’s tradition also in southern France and Portugal, although in the latter the Bull is not killed. Of course, Latin America gets its bullfighting tradition from their Spanish heritage.

Be that as it may, people who like bullfighting is diminishing rapidly and some cities and regions have banned it. Amusingly enough, those idiots in the video are Catalans, whose government have bagged traditional bullfights but not the so-called “embolats”, which roughly translates to “bull with embedded balls”, which are the fire balls your see in the poor beast’s horns.

Also, believe it or not, bullfighting makes a living also out of “aficionados” from overseas, mostly tourist from Great Britain and some other European countries who come down here to spend their Holidays and wish to live the experience.

As for me, I’ve never liked bullfighting, I hope it disappears better sooner than later, but I also can’t stand many a hypocrite looking for a minute of glory by making some eco-animalistic antic on TV or social media.
