Within 48 hours after the murder occurred, at 7:00 a.m. on February 11, the Si Ma Cai District Police reconnaissance force arrested Pham Van Kien while he was hiding at an internet cafe in the area.

At the police investigation agency, Pham Van Kien confessed to all the crimes.
