If anybody is interested, what's being said by the news broadcaster is "thinking they cleared out our men, they cockily approach the trench, fully erect, only for our machine gunner who allowed them to come close to liquidate them. Then, instead of detonating the grenade he prepared for himself to avoid being captured as a POW, he then lobs it at the enemy". Even as a Russian I find play-by-play war footage very unsettling. And I've seen it all back home.

The future is such a fucking rip off!

We're back to trench warfare and international conflict?

As I heard from one person analyzing the war, “it proves that there is still room for a man with a gun and a will in a foxhole on the modern battlefield.”

There will always be a need for boots and guns, but with the crazy tech available, it seems silly.

Rain missiles for weeks...

Well, the fancy stuff is actually liable to run out over the long term. That’s where, “outdated” bullshit comes in. Dumb rounds for artillery? T72s, T90s? Junk. But guess what, for every modern round or tank you can churn out, my tractor factory can churn out 10 times that much in outdated junk. And in a long term conflict, that makes a big difference. Same thing with conscription. In a serious conflict, you’ll quickly run out of volunteers, and that’s when the benefit of having a decent conscription program in place comes in. Of course, the infantryman becomes less and less important. But he’ll almost certainly always have a job.

Then you are like Soviet Union and its totalitarian regime is a heritage of our past but the world is healing...

Nope. We are back in that and never left. 30 years of progress, just lost.

I think the issue there is assuming humans should be the ones to carry things forward.

We're still slightly evolved chimps with some level of genius when it comes to innovation and technology.

The downside is we tend to use that to find new and remarkable ways to efficiently kill as many people as possible.

Humans invented the nuclear bomb. Really think about that for a second... the smartest, brightest humans thought it would be a fantastic idea to create a weapon that can kill millions in a matter of minutes.

If we reached space we'd only be seeing tribalism between planets, with Mars and Earth launching planet-cracker class missiles at each other...

They stopped innovating once the USSR collapsed. I swear.

Repost I think. I wonder who was more scared, Ivan not knowing how many were outside his trench or hohol moving in the open with no cover.

Jump in the discussion.

Probably the Russian. The Ukrainians seemed pretty confident, it looks like they killed one of the Russians in the trench already- they wouldn't approach it like this if they didn't feel like they had a good chance at not being killed.

Jump in the discussion.

What’re they supposed to do? Stand out in the open? They gotta keep moving.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

It seems they believed they had cleared the trench. They probably saw the one Russian go down after being shot or w/e, then they didn't hear/see anything coming back for a while (probably the few minutes that are cut out). So, they believed that any Russians in the trench were either dead or too wounded to fight, so they move up to seize it...

In a case where you're unsure like this, the best course of action would be to throw a grenade or three into the areas you can't see clearly. One of you throws while the other has their rifle trained on the area you're worried about- if the Russian sees the grenade land next to him, he might try to stand up and run or shoot- the man with the rifle would be covering that area, hopefully able to immediately shoot. Also, where's one of their bomber-drones when they need it?! this would've been a perfect target. Hell, they didn't even need a drone equipped with bombs, just the camera... drone operator could've communicated to them "There's still at least one enemy soldier alive, armed in that trench, behind the body".

This is just the nature of clearing tight quarters, though. You have to take that risk eventually; you have to put yourself directly in the line of fire in order to confirm that the enemy is defeated and you can move in. They might've been out of grenades and felt that their only chance was to push hard and fast with their rifles.

It takes an excavator a few hours to dig out a good trench.

There won't be a whole lot of guys in there with entrenching tools digging trenches this deep.

Ukraine supporters are out of their fucking minds. Did you see that tweet that NATO posted? “We are Harry Potter and William Wallace, the Na’vi and Han Solo. We’re escaping from Shawshank and blowing up the Death Star.”

They are appealing to the man-children and woman-children of reddit. They're talking about being characters from novels for pre-teens and fictional sci-fi films while the young men, whom would probably be friends under most other circumstances, are murdering the shit out of each other, dying face down in the mud, crying for their mothers.

I must've missed that part of Harry Potter, or the Shawshank Redemption. I don't remember anything like that in Star Wars, either.

It's shit like this that makes it hard for me to remain objective on this conflict. I don't want to "support" either side, it's not really my business and it doesn't affect my life- but when I see shit like this from goddamned NATO, it makes me hate them.

This is fking stupid, I say that many time even in Ukraine sub (which they removed by post), everyone need to get some of they salary and get couple of drones (or at least 2) for trench cleaning. There ain't no way those soliders don't have enough saving to buy to drone that can drone grenade.

It is like I mentioned years ago, those bomb disposal people should have just spend couple of month of their salary to get a robot to do that for them instead.

People are stupid in a way they can't weight value like htis.

but the bias in this and every other site is too damn obvious.

This was my first clue about the nature of this conflict. When all of the people who despise me, who have been undermining my country and interests for generations, are the ones who throw their lot in with the Ukraine, I start asking a lot of questions.

The entirety of Western media was leveraged against Russia, 100% in support of Ukraine; there's no journalism, it's all editorials. No one is being objective and just giving facts- that's what journalism is supposed to be. Instead, it's just plain old wartime propaganda (research wartime propaganda, you'll see a lot of really familiar concepts).

This doesn't mean I have to "support" Russia. It just is what it is.

Both countries are corrupt and cannot be trusted lmao. Simple as that. It’s so funny how this is going on and we are funding them….. but if someone were to be giving the cartels and Mexico $40 billion every other month (Ik that’s not the right number and time frame) then the USA would declare war on the people funding them. Double standard even in war bruh.

Russia is just trying to show that our America is bought out by China and that we and China are the ones that keep spreading viruses to force people to take our vaccines or their lives are fucked.
