On March 12, 2025, rebels from PDF Natogyi killed two police officers in an attack against government rule in Mahlaing Township. These officers were said to have been corrupt and extorted locals for money. This incident is part of the greater ongoing Myanmar civil war.

The Al-Shabab forces are now only 6 km away from the capital, Mogadishu.
