There isn't much for TL;DR this time - I tried to focus more on the content than the text this time. On 10th of October 2015, two explosions (within a few seconds from each other) interrupted the beginning of a peace rally in the centre of Ankara. It was about to begin two hours later. Death toll reached 109 victims, from a 9 yo boy to elder people, and a few hundreds people were wounded. From the 36 suspects facing the trial, in 2018 nine were sentenced for life, and nine other for varying sentences. The terrorists were tied to the Islamic State. I've skipped the political backstory, and only want to show you the human side.

If you just want to skip to the longest aftermath video, look for this: :marseyupvote: emoji.

⠀ATTACK :marseyinsurgent:

On Saturday morning on 10th of October 2015, a peace rally was taking place in the centre of Ankara. People gathered outside the main train station to protest against the violence between the Turkish authorities and the Kurdish militant group, the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party). PKK and the government have been fighting since a ceasefire agreement collapsed in July. The rally was planned for 12 AM local time. Shortly after 10 AM, when already hundreds of people gathered, two explosions interrupted the crowd, a few seconds apart.

The pro-Kurdish HDP party [Peoples' Democratic Party] was among those attending, and it said in a statement that it believes its members were the main target of the bombings.

HDP leader Selahettin Demirtas has blamed the state for the attack and has cancelled all election rallies. Mr Demirtas angrily condemned the government as "murderers" and said it had blood on its hands.

The party has previously blamed the government for colluding in attacks on Kurdish activists, which the government denies.

The two explosions happened shortly after 10:00 as crowds gathered ahead of the rally. Amateur video footage showed a group of young people holding hands and singing, before the first blast.

New photos were released in 2019, as well as the footage showing the route that the terrorists took. Video below (around 20 MB). The vehicle in which the bombs were transported was spotted on Mevlana Boulevard around 9;00 AM local time. I don't understand the rest from autotranslations.

It was a year after the sentencing took place. In general, 36 suspects faced trial. Here's the quote from AP News, 3rd of August 2018:

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — A Turkish court has sentenced nine Islamic State suspects to life in prison over their involvement in one of Turkey's deadliest terror attacks.

On Oct. 10, 2015, two suicide bombers believed to belong to a Turkish cell of the Islamic State group targeted a peace rally outside the capital's main train station, killing 102 people.

The state-run Anadolu Agency reported that the court convicted nine people Friday of charges of violating the constitutional order, murder and attempted murder for their involvement in the Ankara attack.

The Hurriyet newspaper reported that nine other defendants were convicted of membership in a terror group and sentenced to differing prison terms.

Families of the victims insist the attack was not thoroughly investigated and say officials who may be responsible for negligence have not been held to account.

⠀AFTERMATH :marseybloodpuddle:

The blasts were strong enough to rock nearby high-rise buildings. Witnesses claimed that instantly after the explosions, police used tear gas and didn't let the ambulances in, or tried to prevent carrying away the wounded. People also tried to attack the police cars.

Right after the explosions, around 20 bodies could be seen on the roadside, covered by the banners or flags. Early statements mentioned at least 86 victims. On Saturday evening, both the HDP party and the Turkish Medical Association gave a new estimate - 97 dead and at least 245 wounded.

Eventually, death toll raised to 109 victims. In BBC News, there was mentioned very approximately that more than 1,000 body parts were taken for forensic analysis. In this gallery, you can check the names and the photos of 103 victims. The youngest one was a 9 yo boy.

Aftermath video below, the most gore you will get in this post :marseyupvote: It's a few clips combined, around 4;30 min long. The cameraman walks around, you can notice some bodies and blood puddles, as well as the commotion, police, people performing CPR, crying and running around - everything you can expect from the aftermath of a terrorist attack.

Short aftermath video from The Guardian (not much gory):

Beirut Explosion (9 different angles) (Infos + Results)

On 4 August 2020, a large amount of ammonium nitrate stored at the Port of Beirut in the capital city of Lebanon exploded, causing at least 218 deaths, 7,000 injuries, and US$15 billion in property damage, as well as leaving an estimated 300,000 people homeless. A cargo of 2,750 tonnes of the substance (equivalent to around 1.1 kilotons of TNT) had been stored in a warehouse without proper safety measures for the previous six years after having been confiscated by Lebanese authorities from the abandoned ship MV Rhosus. The explosion was preceded by a fire in the same warehouse.

The blast was so powerful that it physically shook the whole country of Lebanon. It was felt in Turkey, Syria, Palestine, Jordan, and Israel, as well as parts of Europe, and was heard in Cyprus, more than 240 km (150 mi) away. It was detected by the United States Geological Survey as a seismic event of magnitude 3.3 and is considered one of the most powerful non-nuclear explosions on record.

Fire and first explosion

Around 17:45 local time (14:45 UTC) on 4 August 2020, a fire broke out in Warehouse 12 at the Port of Beirut. Warehouse 12, which was waterside and adjacent to the grain elevator, stored the ammonium nitrate that had been confiscated from Rhosus alongside a stash of fireworks. Around 17:55 local time (14:55 UTC), a team of nine firefighters and one paramedic, known as Platoon 5, was dispatched to fight the fire. On arrival the fire crew reported over the radio that there was "something wrong" as the fire was immense and produced "a crazy sound."

The moment of the explosion was captured during a BBC interview.

https://i.watchpeopledie.tv/images/1711712663249399.webp

Collated time of arrival vs distance from analysis of social media video footage, with the best estimate (0.50 kt TNT) and reasonable upper limit (1.12 kt TNT) curves determined from regression analysis.

Despite inefficient transmission of the shock waves into the ground,[c] the United States Geological Survey measured the event as a 3.3 local magnitude earthquake, while the Jordan Seismological Observatory reported that it was equivalent to a 4.5 ML earthquake. A study of seismic signatures of the explosion by the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources in Germany produced a yield estimate between 0.5 and 1.1 kt of TNT.

An independent estimate by the International Monitoring System of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization based on infrasonic data obtained an explosive yield equivalent to 0.5–1.1 kt of TNT, making it the sixth-largest accidental artificial non-nuclear explosion in human history.

Damage

The damage from the blast affected over half of Beirut, with the likely cost above US$15 billion and insured losses at around US$3 billion. Approximately ninety percent of the city's hotels were damaged and three hospitals completely destroyed, while two more suffered damage. Dozens of injured people brought to nearby hospitals could not be admitted because of the damage to the hospitals. Windows and other installations of glass across the city were shattered.

Saint George Hospital University Medical Center before disaster

One of the city's largest medical facilities, was less than 1 kilometer from the explosion, and was so badly damaged that staff were forced to treat patients in the street. Four nurses died from the initial blast, fifteen patients died after their ventilators stopped working, and several child cancer patients were injured by flying glass. Within hours, after discharging all its patients and sending some to other facilities, Saint George Hospital was forced to close.

In the first week after the explosion, civilians gathered in hundreds to volunteer to clean up the debris on the streets and inside homes and businesses in Gemmayze, Achrafieh, and Karantina neighbourhoods. Many civil society organizations offered equipment and food to the volunteers, while many residents and businesses opened their homes and hotels for free to those who lost their homes in the blast.

On 6 August 2020, the Lebanese Forces Party's executive chairman Samir Geagea was the first politician to visit Beirut and launched from there a relief committee, Ground-0, under the leadership of the former minister Dr. May Chidiac to support in rebuilding Beirut. In December 2020, the committee achieved repairing 709 houses, assisted 5300 individuals and 2300 families, distributed 14000 food rations, made 2540 medical consultations, and provided 2030 individuals with medicine. In addition, the committee distributed more than 150 scholarships for Beirut schools' students.

This took place in Mexico. Most details surrounding this incident are unknown. However, the statues in the back of the truck are apparently synonymous with death, so, that's ironic!

What we do know for sure is that this makeshift tourniquet isn't going to be doing very much:

Using a belt as a tourniquet is VERY ineffective, and often hinders medical responders treatments simply due to getting in the way. If whatever object you're using doesn't exceed the mean arterial pressure of those you're trying to treat, it's more or less useless.

Without a tourniquet with a winding mechanism, you'll struggle to control most instances of catastrophic haemorrhage. If you know how, you're also able to create a makeshift winding tourniquet with a bit of cloth and a sturdy pen or stick. It may be worth while leaning how.

Don't waste your nice belts. Don't waste lives, either.

Book Bomb Explodes During Defusal Attempt In Jakarta, Indonesia

"15 March 2011: A package of explosive devices hidden in a book was delivered to Ulil Abhsar Abdalla, an activist of Jaringan Islam Liberal (Islamic Liberal Network) in the Komunitas Utan Kayu complex near the 68h Radio station in Utan Kayu, East Jakarta. The note enclosed within the book requested Abdalla to write a foreword for the upcoming book to be published. The Institut Studi Arus Informasi (ISAI) receptionist found the package suspicious and called for help from the Gegana (anti-bomb squad). There were no casualties. However, before the Gegana squad arrived, the bomb exploded and severed the arm of a police officer trying to defuse the device."
