I had to downvote because shooting him in the head would have landed the defender with serious prison time. This way the loser got what he deserved and learned a lesson, and the shooter probably did no jail time, since it was valid self-defense.

I vaguely remember the backstory to this event. The instigator was a troubled man with two kids who had alcohol problems and would wait outside the gunman's house at night to antagonize and threaten him.
One night it came to this and the gunman saw he had a knife in his shorts, tried to go for a nonlethal shot but ended up blasting him in the PELVIS. He died before the ambulance came.
Man I'd rather get shot in the head than the pelvis. I also feel bad for the kids who might see this. Their father being a complete jackass and crying like a bitch.

The guy (Michael Montanarella) died from the gunshot wound. Active Self Protection interviewed the shooter (Benjamin Backus) about the incident, what led up to it, and the aftermath. Apparently Backus was friends with Montanarella and helped him with some business ventures in the past, but Montanarella got into drugs and went crazy. Montanarella thought Backus was out to get him, so he stalked Backus. Backus moved and got a restraining order against Montanarella, but Montanarella found him at his new home and ambushed him while he was coming out of his van. That's when the shooting happened. Backus was arrested and had his blood drawn, DNA swabbed, fingerprints taken, and clothing taken, then released. His house was searched and his phone was taken. At that point he contacted a lawyer. There was an investigation but he was never charged with anything, as it was obviously self defense.
