Uberaba, MG, Brazil - Oct 23, 2015

Video shows moto-taxi driver killing co-worker with gunshots in MG.

After a discussion in the room, a moto-taxi driver shot the young man three times in Uberaba. The author of the crime left quietly, fled on his bike and has not yet been arrested.

Images recorded by an internal circuit camera installed in a moto-taxi center in Uberaba show the discussion between two moto-taxi drivers, which ended with the death of one of them on the morning of this Friday (23). The victim was a 29-year-old man, according to the Military Police (PM).

The criminal has not yet been arrested and the reason for the murder, according to the occurrence, was over a client. The recording shows the two men talking in a room. Dialogue audio was not recorded. But the gestures made by them suggest that they were excited and arguing. At one point, the moto-taxi driver who appears to the right of the video removes his helmet. The two argue for some more time and the moto-taxi driver who appears on the left pulls out a gun. A while after the fight, the man shoots three times at the other, who falls in a corner of the room. Afterwards, the shooter opens the door and leaves quietly.

According to the PM, he fled on the same motorcycle he worked on and remains missing. The Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) was called and a doctor confirmed the victim's death. Civil Police experts were at the crime scene and collected traces that will be used in the investigation.

If you find yourself in a situation like this, it's like... when is the right moment to make a move? Do you trust that the guy threatening to murder you might not do it, that he might consider the consequences, realize he's on camera and not want to go to prison? Trusting such a person seems like a bad idea, as homeboy in the red found out firsthand.

I suppose it depends on a lot of variables- where are you, who else is around, etc.. I think that in this case, when the guy drew the gun, red-shirt should've immediately started grappling with him. The tight quarters of that entryway might slightly negate the advantage of a gun, especially if the guys end up clinched up, wrestling for the gun.

In a struggle over a weapon, the armed person will often become almost 100% fixated on retaining the weapon, or switching it into their other hand; someone who is trained for weapon retention might not have this tunnel vision, but most people will- the struggle boils down to "Whoever gets this gun and brings it to bear is the one who lives".

So, red shirt's best chance here would've been to grab the shooter by both of his wrists- his main focus should be keeping the shooter's right arm pinned back, preventing him from getting the barrel aligned for a point-blank shot. Meanwhile, headbutts could be devastating... if the guy wasn't wearing a helmet. That complicates things... red-shirt just had to try to overpower the shooter and get the gun from him. Knocking him out is unfeasible, escaping is impossible while the guy has the gun still...

Yeah, idk, I think this was just red-shirt's time, nothing he could've done... Idk what they were saying, but they seemed cool at first, then an argument started brewing and escalating, till the gun came out. Red-shirt shouldn't have been lackin'.

That's better than nothing. Unarmed, fighting someone with a gun, you couldn't really ask for a better spot to fight them- the close quarters of that little entryway negates the primary advantage of the firearm (range).

So, maybe one hand goes for the gun to try and keep it off of you, other hand grabs the rim of the helmet- this can actually be really effective, if you control the head, the body goes with it. You know the stereotypical depiction of a "Viking"? Wearing helmets with horns on them? Yeah, they didn't wear those into battle, they were for ceremonial purposes. They didn't wear them in battle because someone could grab one of those horns and drag you around like a dog on a leash. The same would apply to a bulky motorcycle helmet.

The motorcycle helmet protects him from punches/elbows/headbutts, though. Ideally, if you're fighting over a weapon, you'd have both of your hands on the wrist holding the weapon (2 on 1), meanwhile you should be headbutting the shit out of the guy in the hopes of stunning him... but a helmet throws that out of the window.

I like your idea. First, get ahold of the gun hand before he raises it, while grabbing the rim of the helmet with the other hand, then try to drag him down and get outside of his firing range by moving to the side. If you can drag him to the ground by the helmet, face down, you have a much better chance at taking the gun from him. We have a few examples of men taking guns from their would-be murderers and using them on the fuckers, so it's possible- just very unlikely. So many variables would have to be just right, there would be a lot of "luck" involved.

This is all just bullshit armchair analysis, I think this guy was screwed, he didn't seem to want to fight, he didn't seem to believe the other guy was serious, so that's that.
