Internet Lost Media (NSFL/Gore)

Below is an incomplete list of dark, disturbing and unsettling content that used to be available online but is considered "lost media" in 2024. Brief descriptions for these items will be provided. If anyone has any other recs for this list, which is a work in progress, let me know.

>Sphere Hunter's breakdown livestream

(YouTuber Sphere Hunter was a transwoman who went by Suzi Lightning on a masturbation camshows that she ran. In one particular livestream, Suzi opened up about her personal life which culminated in her having a hysterical breakdown, uncontrollably crying. This livestream is lost now and it is presumed that Suzi was groomed into sex work and possibly a victim of trafficking)

(Around the years of 2000 to 2002, this website existed dedicated to scaring its viewers away from the often deadly trend of train-hopping. The website contained both links to articles of train-hopping fatalities, and presumably grisly death photos of people who partook in this activity. The website itself is partially accessible through the Wayback Machine but the link to the death photos section is a "dead link". It is not clear whether or not the photos themselves have been reposted on other shock sites of the time)

>Dayna Kempson Schacht crash video

(I have posted about this before. TLDR, a young woman perished in a car collision after a night on the town with friends. Firefighter Terrence Reid, and a professional accomplice, took a cell phone video of the crash's gory aftermath where they made callous remarks in a deadpan tone. The most disheartening and appalling part of this case is how one of the firefighters shared the aftermath video with fellow patrons at a bar, eventually making its way online and to Kempson's parents. The video was hosted on as many as 800 websites including YouTube.... but nowadays, nary a single still or screenshot can be found online)

>Alleged Cannibalism Footage

(This may be the creepiest and most mysterious case I will mention here. The short-lived gore site "fuckingshocking.com" featured a video of a man being cannibalized post-mortem that AFAIK hasn't been featured anywhere else and is presumably lost to time. It appears to have the highest view count of any video on the site, according to a Wayback Machine capture from August 2008. The video is not viewable in 2024 as it was hosted by Adobe Flash Player)

>Mert Matan's "coming out" video

(Oh, boy, how do I explain this one? So, for some period of time, there was a trend of LGBT folks secretly recording themselves coming out to kinfolks and posting the videos online. The relatives' reactions ran the gamut from supportive to neutral to ferally angry. Turkish prankster Mert Matan somehow thought it would be amusing for him to cash in on this trend by pretending to "come out" as gay to his father, even though he was straight. The results were.... as far from supportive as you can get. Mert was beaten up by his father, on camera. Mert uploaded the video anyways, leading some to question its authenticity, speculating that the beating was staged and that Mert's father was in on the prank. Mert eventually took the video down, not long after it was posted in early 2016)

>Leanne Holland's crime scene photos

(Veterans of the online gore community might vaguely remember this one. So way back in 2010, a few death-centric websites were moderated by a Swedish woman who went by JohannaXn. JohannaXn ran her own website on the side and at one point, got her hands on a few images that supposedly depicted the corpse of slain 12-year-old Leanne Holland from Queensland, Australia. JohannaXn found herself treading hot water over hosting the photos on her website which was subsequently shut down. The photos have been successfully scrubbed from the Internet as far as I know, but I wouldn't be surprised if some gorehounds have saved them on their computers, phones or hard-drives)

>Rodney Orr autopsy photos

(Some of you may recall the controversy over NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt's autopsy photos being sought out by the owner of a Florida-based website called "websitecity.com". You may or may not be aware of the Earnhardt Family Protection Act, a Florida law that was passed to make autopsy exam documentations confidential. What most do not know is that if Dale's autopsy photos were indeed found and posted on websitecity, they wouldn't be the only NASCAR death photos on there. As many as 31 autopsy photos of both Neil Bonnett and Rodney Orr, two NASCAR drivers who died in crashes days apart, were posted on websitecity before the owner took them down in cooperation with a lawsuit from Orr's family. A few of Bonnett's autopsy photos are still floating around online but from what I can tell, most of Orr's have been successfully scrubbed from the Internet)

>Nellie Mae Brown-Cox crime scene photos

(In the year of 2011, A Bahamian woman was hacked to death in her South Beach apartment. Somehow grisly photographs from the crime scene found their way online but they appear to be completely lost now. No one faced any repercussions in connection with the leak. It seems like the source of the leak has never been identified. It is not clear how many websites hosted the photos, it could've just been a one-off thing)
