Police in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore arrested a man for abusing his wife and recording a video of her dying by suicide on September 21, which he then forwarded to different people including some of his wife’s relatives.

The incident took place in Nellore district’s Atmakur town. The deceased woman was identified as 29-year-old Kondamma, who was married to Penchalaiah for 12 years. The couple had two children.

Suspecting his spouse Kondamma of having engaged in an extra-marital affair, Penchalaiah has been allegedly harassing Kondamma for some time now.

On Tuesday night, the two had a heated argument and Kondamma wanted to put an end to her life. After the heated argument, she tied a saree to the ceiling fan and hanged herself in front of her husband and children.

Instead of preventing his wife from dying by suicide, Penchalaiah filmed Kondamma’s ultimate moments and shared the video with his wife’s relatives, asking them to collect the body of the deceased to carry out the last rites.

Kodamma’s relatives filed complaint

Based on a grievance filed by Kondamma’s relatives, Atmakur Police Department have registered a case and arrested Penchalaiah.

Sub-inspector Sivasankar of Atmakur police station told India Today, “The husband used to harass her (Kondamma), following which she took the extreme step. We have filed a case based on the report by her relatives. We will take legal action against those involved in this case.”

On August 31, 2020, Ronald Merle "Ronnie" McNutt, a 33-year-old American man, fatally shot himself in the head during a Facebook livestream, which went viral on social media platforms. The case became notable for both the callous attitude expressed towards McNutt's death by some Internet users, as well as Facebook's slow response to the video, which had been shared to numerous other platforms and amassed a large view count before finally being taken down. Video platform TikTok was also slow to respond to the video, which had appeared in many user feeds and constant re-uploads, leading to many users choosing to boycott the platform. The case has raised awareness about both suicide prevention and what duty of care social media platforms owe to protect users and victim reputations online when it comes to graphic content.

Both never explicitly said the reason why he jumped but one of them claimed it was due to his beloved pet dog dying, which I believed was the catalyst. He suffered from bipolar disorder and that his pet dog dying was the last straw for him
