In theory, it has always been possible to act like this here in Brazil.
The defense of someone in this type of situation can be included in the law of self-defence, where in this case you would be “repelling a serious and unfair threat, current or imminent, to the rights of others, with necessary means used in moderation”. It would be difficult for a judge to find "unfair" this hit-and-run where the defended person is being subdued or threatened with a gun or knife.
Of course, there are cases that would not be included in this. For example, if you hit someone to defend yourself or another, but then come back and run over the criminal on the ground. In this case it would be hard to prove that it was self-defense lmao
