The fog was so dense that they couldn't see anything in front of them at all and the pilot was flying purely by instruments. They probably didn't even see the hill they hit until they were two seconds from crashing into it at full speed. The bodies were so mangled by the crash that I don't think the pilot had any time whatsoever to respond to the terrain in front of him. Sounds a lot better than spending 15 seconds plummeting in terror to what seems to be certain death.

Kobe didn't see shit. It was super foggy that day. He did feel the helicopter prolly hit something for a second ( mountain side) and I think he tried to cover his daughter from what I read in autopsy file
