I don't think pedestrians should be waiting on the road itself for cars to stop passing... They were focused on one lane, totally overlooked the one they were standing in. I blame the parent. Poor kid got hit and then ran over, no way he survived.

They were in the middle of the road, cars usually stay clear of that and the car that hit them first not only went towards the centre but also sped up, why?.

The middle of the road is still the road. The line in the middle is meant to divide the right of way of drivers going in each direction. Doesn't mean it's safe for pedestrians to be on that line at any time.
You never know how people will react upon situations like this. Some might get too scared and floor it instead of slowing down and get out to provide help.
