Over the past weekend, 1 traffic accident occurred in the region, in which a person was killed.
The fatal accident occurred on Sunday, November 13, at about 21:35 in Svetlogorsk, the district center of the Gomel region.
The 38-year-old driver of the BMW car, being under the influence of alcohol, according to preliminary information, was moving along Socialist Street in the direction of Lazo Street. On the way, he hit a 65-year-old female pedestrian.
The woman died from her injuries at the scene.
According to one of the eyewitnesses of the tragedy, at about 21:40 he was driving a Mercedes from the side of the railway crossing. A white BMW was moving towards him. At that time, a man and a woman were walking along the pedestrian crossing.
— The speed of the Behi was clearly not 40, — said the driver of the Mercedes. – I was passing pedestrians. And the oncoming car didn't stop. The man managed to jump away, but the woman did not.
The Svetlogorsk traffic police clarified that the driver was detained. A criminal case has been opened against him under Part 4 of Article 317 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (Violation of traffic rules or operation of vehicles by a person driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol[...], which caused the death of a person by negligence[...]).
The culprit of the accident faces up to seven years in prison.

In the last couple of days, a strong air vortex swept across Europe as a result of a cyclone. On Saturday, as a result of the cyclone, strong winds were typical in a large area of the country.
Agricultural works were carried out near the accident and due to the loosened soil, the wind blew dust with it , which resulted in poor visibility on the highway in an instant.
