A 73-year-old man is dead and a 45-year-old man seriously injured after a two-car crash Tuesday night near Hamilton’s downtown core.
Emergency services were called to Barton Street West and MacNab Street North just after 9 p.m. for reports of a serious car crash.
Hamilton police Const. Krista-Lee Ernst said the 73-year-old was pronounced dead in hospital and the 45-year-old was critically hurt, but in stable condition in hospital.
The men were the drivers of the two cars involved in the crash. There were no passengers in either vehicle and no other reported injuries.
Video posted on social media from a MacNab Street North property shows a car speeding north on MacNab, blowing through a stop sign at Colbourne Street without braking, and then continuing toward Barton. At that intersection, the car T-bones a westbound car on the driver’s side without slowing. The intersection of Barton and MacNab is controlled by four-way stop signs.
No charges have been laid and the investigation by the collision reconstruction unit is ongoing.

This is the shocking moment a driver was flung out of his window and across three lanes of traffic in a fatal high-speed crash into a barrier.
The 25-year-old victim, who died from his injuries, was attempting to overtake a vehicle near Taichung City, Taiwan, when he lost control of his car.
Dashcam footage shows the dark-coloured vehicle swerving into a metal barrier around 9.40am on Saturday.
Moments later the driver, who is only known as Lu, is thrown from his hatchback and into the barrier on the opposite side of the road.
Lu was taken to hospital where he was given CPR for up to 30 minutes. He died later that day.
Doctors confirmed he suffered from a severe skull fracture and a cerebral haemorrhage.
The driver's overtaking manoeuvre is illegal in the country but is said to be rarely punished.

Five people were killed on Wednesday when a light aircraft with the registration number CP 2625 crashed in Santa Ana del Yacuma, in the department of Beni. The bodies were taken to the Jacobo Abularach Hospital, according to doctor Moisés Roberto Vasvaldo Claros.
According to a preliminary report, the plane was carrying out test flights when one of the wings separated from the fuselage.
"There was a plane crash. Five people, already deceased, arrived at the hospital around 6pm. They were taken by ambulance. All dead," confirmed Vasvaldo.
One person managed to use a mobile phone to record the seconds it took for the plane to hit the ground.
"The condition of the bodies is indescribable," the doctor added.
At around 7pm, only the relatives of one of the victims had requested the body, but it was not delivered at that time because the necessary documents had not been presented.
While the documents were arriving, the medical staff at the hospital were preparing the death certificates. Dozens of people waited outside the doors of the Santa Ana morgue, dismayed at what had happened.

So incredibly stupid. I think it might have been the father who ran her over.
Stupid, but also very sad.
