A military helicopter crashed Tuesday at an airport in Russia's remote eastern Chukotka region, killing all four people on board, the governor said. The helicopter of the Russian Defense Ministry went down in the main airport in Chukotka near Anadyr, which has mixed military and civilian use.
"There were three crew members and one technician on board. All four died," governor Roman Kopin wrote on his Instagram account.
Russian agencies reported that it was an Mi-8 helicopter which was doing a test flight after undergoing technical maintenance.
"The reason for the accident could be a technical fault with the helicopter," TASS news agency quoted a defence ministry statement as saying.
Military investigators were dispatched to the crash site, it said.
Last Tuesday, another Mi-8 without ammunition crashed during training exercises outside Moscow, killing its three crew members. Russia grounded all Mi-8 flights after the second incident involving the military helicopter, an unnamed aviation industry source told the state-run TASS news agency Tuesday.

A fatal accident occurred on the Presidential Bridge in Ulyanovsk on July 21. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Ulyanovsk region, the 39-year-old KAMAZ driver could not maintain a safe distance and drove into the Kia Rio, in which a young family from Tolyatti was traveling. A terrible accident occurred in the Bolshemurtinsky district on January 17, at about four o'clock in the afternoon. As the traffic police informed us, two cars collided on the 108th kilometer of the Krasnoyarsk-Yeniseisk highway near the village of Maly Kantat. Footage has emerged from the moment of the fatal accident in Norilsk. The participants in the accident were a Toyota SUV and a Kawasaki motorcycle, the driver and passenger of which were killed on the spot in a collision.
The footage shows that the motorcycle driver lost control at some point and flew right under the wheels of the SUV.
Recall that a fatal accident occurred in the Talnakh area on August 12. The 29-year-old driver of the Kawasaki motorcycle drove into oncoming traffic, where he collided with a Toyota SUV, which was a participant in the wedding motorcade. 01/20/2024, at approximately 12 am, officers responded to the intersection of Southport Parkway and Silverwood Rd following a report of a vehicle overturned and on fire. Upon arrival, two individuals were discovered at the scene of the collision. One individual was pronounced deceased on scene. The second individual involved was transported to the hospital, and their current condition remains unknown.
The investigation of this collision is being turned over to the West Sacramento Police Department Traffic Unit. The cause of the collision is under investigation and the names and further details of the collision are not being released at this time.
