Today we are covering car crashes, these are some of the leading causes of car crashes:

• speeding

• distracted driving (on phone, looking for something, doing makeup)

• DUI or driving when tired/mentally impaired

• road conditions and weather

• tailgating and bumper-to-bumper traffic

• failure to check blind spots

• inexperienced drivers (teens)

Statistically speaking, among any other age group, teens aged 16-19 are at higher risk for crashing and are 3x more likely to get into a fatal crash [1]

Driving Under the Influence

Javier Caldera (driver that caused the accident) slammed into Janet Genao's nissan at over a 100mph, Genao was pronounced dead at the scene and a few other drivers were injured. Caldera was sentenced and is currently serving time for second degree murder

Driving under the influence includes "A first-offense DUI or DWI is classified as a misdemeanor and punishable by no more than six months or a year in jail"[4]. An alcohol DUI is classified as observed visual impairments or unlawful blood alcohol or breath alcohol level of .08 or above. DUI cases are mostly settled with fines ranging from $500-$2000, varying from state to state. "Fines for subsequent offenses and DUI's involving aggravating factors can go well up into the thousands" [4].

Driving under the influence includes the intoxication from:

• alcoholic beverages

• chemical substances (drugs)

• controlled substances (prescription drugs)

DWI vs DUI

In some states, a DWI and DUI are considered the same thing, but in others, it could mean separate things. The main difference between them is the level of intoxication. DWI's have more serious charges than DUI's. You are more likely to be charged with a DWI if your BAC is 0.08 or higher, in some states they may lessen your charge to a DUI if your BAC is 0.07 or lower. Unfortunately, it's hard to find a definitive difference as it varies from state to state. In states that don't use DWI, the standard maximum BAC is 0.08.

DUI: driving under the influence/impaired

BAC: blood alcohol content/breath alcohol content

Subsequent offenses: being charged with a crime and has been previously convicted of the same or similar crime, one or more times

According to ABC&: Two people are dead, and one person is in critical condition after a white Chrysler struck a parked oil tank in the Bronx Sunday morning, police say. The two victims of the fatal crash were a 21 and a 15yr old. The 21yr old male was pronounced dead on the scene, and the 15yr old female was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. The crash happened a little after 3 a.m. at Bryant Avenue and Viele Avenue at the Hunts Point section of the Bronx Sunday. A third passenger, a 17yr old female, is in the hospital in critical condition. The 23yr old male driver is also hospitalized but in stable condition.

Reckless driving is considered a misdemeanor criminal offense with fines from $50-$1000 and jail time of up to 90 days to a year. Driving with a suspended or revoked license is deemed as a 2nd-degree misdemeanor but can quickly turn into a felony if fatalities are involved. If you fatally kill someone in a reckless driving accident, this is considered a Class 6 felony and carries jail time of up to 12 months to 5 years, with fines not to exceed $2500.

Street racing is a serious offense even if no deaths are involved if someone is injured by a street/drag race incident, that is a Class 6 felony and is punishable by up to 12 months to 5 years. Now, if a victim dies due to a street/drag race, this is a separate felony offense that is punishable with a mandatory 1-year sentence but can go up to 20 years.

Porsche Girl; Nicole "Nikki" Catsouras

On Halloween 2006, 18yr old Nicole Catsouras argued with her father, Christos Catsouras, because she was smoking which was forbidden in their house. Her dad ended up confiscating her car keys, but being a her rebellious teen self, Nikki Catsouras stole the keys to his Porsche 911 Carrera and took it on a high-speed joyride, hitting speeds over 100 miles per hour. She glanced off at a Honda that was traveling down the same highway at 70 mph, nearly killing its occupants. That was enough to make her lose control. She left the road at an insane speed and collided with a concrete toll booth where she was killed instantly

CHP Officers Aaron Reich and Thomas O'Donnell released the photos of Nikki which would later go viral labeling her as "Porsche Girl". Her parents were relentlessly harassed after what happened with people making fun of and taunting Nikki and the situation and repeatedly sending them photos of the scene.

A particularly serious road accident happened in the evening of June 3 to 4 in the north of Ploiești, in the area of the Emergency County Hospital.

Footage from another motorcyclist's helmet camera captures the moment another young man on a motorbike overtook the double solid line and hit a row of concrete markers set up to separate the two lanes of travel.

The impact was devastating, due to the very high speed with which the young man on the motorcycle was traveling. Later, the motorcycle and the young man crashed into a car on the opposite side.

The young motorcyclist, aged 30, died on the spot.

ISU Prahova officials say that the driver in the car hit by the motorcycle needed medical attention because she suffered a panic attack.

The occurrence of the accident:

A massive container ship was leaving the Port of Helen Dridge Bentley in Baltimore, Maryland, when it struck the support of the Francis Scott Key Bridge around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday (GMT-830PM) pier (coordinates -76.545726, 39.206736) when the freighter Dali notified authorities that it had lost power and sent out a distress signal. The 984-foot-long freighter then hit the bridge supports at a speed of 8 knots (about 9 mph). . "By removing the vessel we will be able to reopen traffic in both directions."

Step 3: Remove the remaining 2,900 feet of steel on the river bottom and all associated concrete and roadways.

"We can get the job done. We have what we need," Spellmon said.

Happened on October 30, 2017 on route M5 in Setovka, Moscow Oblast, Russia [55°15'45.3"N 38°30'30.8"E]

Man in his VAZ-2104 stopped to turn left. He had to wait for oncoming truck to pass.

Suddenly Volkswagen Transporter crashed into the back of stopped VAZ and pushed the car onto the truck.

After that, VAZ bursts into flames. It is suspected, that the car was carrying easily flammable substances.

Driver burned alive inside the car.

No one else was injured.

A girl died after the electric motorcycle she was riding was hit by the Penataran train bound for Blitar-Surabaya at a crossing without a crossbar in Lawang District, Malang Regency, Saturday (2/3/2024) afternoon.

Information gathered by https://blok-a.com, the victim's identity is known as Mita Agustin Istighfarini (24), a resident of Jalan Pandowo Gg. Tri Karya Kelurahan / District Lawang Malang Regency.

Lawang Police Chief Kompol Suwarta said, the incident occurred at around 12.15 WIB, at the crossing without a doorstop Kalianyar, Bedali Village, Lawang District.

"At that time, Achmad Nuryanto (39) as the security officer of Lawang train station received information from the WA Group of Ops KA Daop 8 Surabaya which reported that a person had hit KA 434A Penataran majoring in Blitar - Surabaya when the train passed on the railroad crossing on Kalianyar Street, Bedali Village, Lawang District, Malang Regency," Kompol Suwarta told the media crew, Saturday (2/3/2024) afternoon.

Seen in CCTV footage at the location, several vehicles had crossed the doorstop. Unfortunately, it was the turn of the victim who was riding a red U Winfly brand electric bicycle to cross, the train came and immediately hit him.

The officer immediately went to the scene and found the victim on the edge of the rail in a slumped position.

The police who received the report immediately jumped in and conducted crime scene investigation.

Furthermore, the victim's body was evacuated to RSSA Malang City for a post mortem.

"The victim's electric motorcycle was temporarily secured by officers as evidence for further investigation," he concluded. (ags/lio)

A terrible accident occurred in the Bolshemurtinsky district on January 17, at about four o'clock in the afternoon. As the traffic police informed us, two cars collided on the 108th kilometer of the Krasnoyarsk-Yeniseisk highway near the village of Maly Kantat. According to the preliminary version, the Toyota Camry was moving from Krasnoyarsk towards Yeniseisk and drove into oncoming traffic, where it crashed into a Honda Stepwgn.

The Stepwgn tipped over from the impact. Two of his passengers died on the spot. Seven more victims were taken to Bolshemurtinskaya district hospital. Among them are both drivers, two passengers from Toyota and three passengers from Honda.

The regional hospital reports that an air ambulance team immediately went to the scene: two surgeons, two anesthesiologists, resuscitators and two paramedics. Three victims, who were in extremely serious condition, were urgently operated on by local doctors in Bolshaya Murta, and then they were taken to the intensive care unit of the regional hospital on ventilators.

— The victims of the accident were diagnosed with skeletal injuries, traumatic brain injuries, multiple fractures of limbs, chest and lung injuries. On the night of the 17th to the 18th, four people were evacuated to the regional hospital, and on January 18, two more patients were transported in the afternoon," said Konstantin Baryshnikov, head of the air ambulance department.

Incident Summary:

The Charlottesville car attack was a white supremacist terrorist attack perpetrated on August 12, 2017, when James Alex Fields Jr. deliberately drove his car into a crowd of people peacefully protesting the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, killing one person and injuring 35. Fields, 20, had previously espoused neo-Nazi and white supremacist beliefs, and drove from Ohio to attend the rally.

Fields' attack was called an act of domestic terrorism by the mayor of Charlottesville, Virginia's public safety secretary, the U.S. attorney general, and the director of the FBI.

Fields was convicted in a state court of the first-degree murder of 32-year-old Heather Heyer, eight counts of malicious wounding, and hit and run. He also pled guilty to 29 of 30 federal hate crime charges to avoid the death penalty. He was sentenced to life in prison plus 419 years for the state charges, with an additional life sentence for the federal charges.

Unite The Right Rally and Subsequent Protests:

The Unite the Right rally was a white supremacist rally that took place in Charlottesville, Virginia, from August 11–12, 2017. Marchers included members of the alt-right, neo-Confederates, neo-fascists, white nationalists, neo-Nazis, Klansmen,[ and far-right militias. Some groups chanted racist and antisemitic slogans and carried weapons, Nazi and neo-Nazi symbols, the Valknut, Confederate battle flags, Deus vult crosses, flags, and other symbols of various past and present antisemitic and anti-Islamic groups. The organizers' stated goals included the unification of the American white nationalist movement and opposing the proposed removal of the statue of General Robert E. Lee from Charlottesville's former Lee Park. The rally sparked a national debate over Confederate iconography, racial violence, and white supremacy.

The rally occurred amid the controversy generated by the removal of Confederate monuments by local governments following the Charleston church shooting in , where a white supremacist shot and killed nine black members, including the minister (a state senator), and wounded others. The rally turned violent after protesters clashed with counter-protesters, resulting in more than 30 injured.

On the morning of August 12, Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency, stating that public safety could not be safeguarded without additional powers. Within an hour, at 11:22 a.m., the Virginia State Police declared the rally to be an unlawful assembly.

The Attack:

At around 1:45 p.m. on August 12, 2017, the Dodge Challenger, driven by Fields, drove at high speed into a crowd of counter-protesters . A police crash reconstructionist estimated the speed at 23–28 miles per hour (37–45 km/h). The car audibly rammed pedestrians and struck a white sedan stopped in the street, accelerating the sedan to 17.1 miles per hour (27.5 km/h). The impact reportedly sent people "flying through the air" over another car near the intersection of Fourth and Water streets. The struck vehicle also hit the maroon minivan ahead, "sending that vehicle into more pedestrians". Seconds after the initial impact, Fields drove in reverse, striking more people, with his car's front bumper scraping the road. Pedestrians who had avoided the attack chased Fields along Fourth Street.

Fields backed up at a high speed for several blocks, and then turned left and sped off down Market Street. A Virginia State Police Bell 407 helicopter, which crashed about three hours later, followed the car and relayed its route to ground units. A deputy stopped and arrested Fields on Monticello Avenue, about 1 mile (1.6 km) from the attack. The deputy waited for backup to arrive, and detective Steven Young came from the police department. According to Young, Fields kept apologizing and asked if anyone was injured. When Young told him that a person had died, Fields appeared shocked and started to cry. Young said that the Dodge had holes in the rear window and heavy front-end damage; Young said that the car was "splattered" with blood and flesh. A pair of blue sunglasses was stuck in the spoiler on the car's trunk.

Heather Heyer, a 32-year-old woman, was fatally injured in the attack, and died at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Initially, 19 injuries were reported, as 20 patients were taken at the University of Virginia Medical Center. In the evening, five people were in critical condition and 14 others were being treated for lesser injuries. Nine people had been discharged and ten remained hospitalized in good condition the next day. Testimony at the preliminary hearing in December 2017 revealed that a total of 35 people were injured.

The Perpetrator, James Alex Fields Jr.:

Fields's father had been killed in a car crash on December 5, 1996, five months before he was born. Fields was born in Kenton, Kentucky on April 26, 1997, and grew up with his mother, Samantha Bloom, a paraplegic, in Florence, Kentucky. Bloom's parents died in a murder-suicide when she was 16 on August 21, 1984, when Bloom's father, 42-year-old self-employed contractor Marvin, killed his 37-year-old ex-wife Judy and himself. After living in southwest Florence for ten years, Bloom and Fields moved to Monclova Township, Lucas County, Ohio, for her job in late 2016.

According to Fields's high-school history teacher, Derek Weimer, Fields was diagnosed with schizophrenia and prescribed an antipsychotic medication for anger management. Fields later told a judge that he was receiving treatment for bipolar disorder, anxiety, depression, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Until his arrest in Charlottesville, Fields worked for about two years as a security guard in Ohio; he earned US$10.50 per hour and his income was $650 every two weeks. Fields's mother told the Toledo Blade that he had "recently moved out on his own." According to acquaintances, Fields "filled his time" playing video games and working at a local grocery store.

Fields threatened his mother with violence on multiple occasions. In November 2010, she locked herself in a bathroom, afraid of her son. She told the police that he took her phone, struck her head, put his hands over her mouth, and threatened to beat her after she told him to stop playing video games.

In February 2011, Fields's mother reported to the police at 5:20 a.m. that he had not come home; she said that he was wearing a T-shirt and shorts. Two hours later, she reported to the police that Fields "was home and acting lethargic;" he threatened to run away "if police came to the condo." In October 2011, Fields threatened her with a 12-inch (30 cm) knife; she called the police the next day to say that her son had been "very threatening" toward her and that she was scared and did not feel in control of the situation because she was in a wheelchair. In November 2011, Fields spat in his mother's face and threatened her, and a woman requested that the police help Fields's mother get him to a hospital for assessment; the log for the call reads, "Mom is scared he is going to become violent here." Fields was subsequently arrested and held in juvenile detention.

When he was a senior in high school, Fields applied to join the U.S. Army. Weimer, his history teacher and a former Ohio National Guard officer, helped him because Weimer believed that the military "would expose Fields to people of different races and backgrounds and help him dispel his white supremacist views." Fields was eventually rejected, which Weimer called a "big blow."

Fields graduated from Randall K. Cooper High School in 2015.

Fields entered the Army on August 18, 2015, and was released from active duty "due to a failure to meet training standards" on December 11 the same year. Army spokeswoman Lt. Col. Jennifer Johnson said that Fields "was never awarded a military occupational skill nor was he assigned to a unit outside of basic training." Weimer lost contact with Fields after he had graduated and was "surprised" when he heard that Fields had managed to enlist in the army.

Fields purchased his first car, the 2010 Dodge Challenger used in the attack, from a car dealership in Florence, Kentucky, in June 2015. The car was last registered in Ohio, and Fields updated its title in Maumee, Ohio, in July 2015. In May 2017, local court records show, the Maumee police cited him for expired or unlawful license plates.

Ideology:

An ex-schoolmate of Fields said that Fields would draw swastikas and talk about "loving Hitler" as early as middle school. Fields' high school history teacher said that Fields was "deeply into Adolf Hitler and white supremacy". The teacher, Derek Weimer, reportedly taught Fields in three classes at Randall K. Cooper High School and "had regular interaction with him after classes and during free time". He told The Cincinnati Enquirer, "I'm sure if you would ask James he would say I was his favorite or one of his favorite teachers." Weimer said that Fields was "a very bright kid but very misguided and disillusioned". Weimer said, "Once you talked to James for a while, you would start to see that sympathy towards Nazism, that idolization of Hitler, that belief in white supremacy. It would start to creep out."

Weimer said that he had done his best to steer Fields away from those interests and had thought that he had succeeded in doing so. He said that he felt like he failed as a teacher because of the attack, but that "this is definitely a teachable moment and something we need to be vigilant about, because this stuff is tearing up our country". Weimer said that another teacher had filed a report during Fields' freshman year because he had written something that was "very much along the party lines of the neo-Nazi movement". He said that it "would have been standard procedure" to notify Fields' mother and that the school administrators "were very good about keeping parents in the loop".

According to Weimer, Fields "left school for a while" and became quieter about politics when he came back, until his senior year, when the candidates for the 2016 presidential election were declared. Weimer said that Fields supported Donald Trump because of what he perceived were Trump's racial views. According to Weimer, Fields supported Trump's Mexico border proposal. Weimer said that Fields "admired" the Confederate States of America for their military, though they "never spoke about slavery". Weimer said that "the constant presence of the Confederate flag was an ongoing issue" and that an African-American cheerleader was "very uncomfortable having to ride in a parade being carried by a pickup truck with a large Confederate flag sticker".

Fields reportedly made students feel "unnerved" and "unsafe," and one woman told The New York Times, "On many occasions there were times he would scream obscenities, whether it be about Hitler or racial slurs." Fields's roommate on a class trip to Europe in 2015 told the Associated Press that Fields went on the trip only to visit Germany, and referred to it as the Fatherland. He could not handle being in a room with Fields after Fields spoke about French people "being lower than us and inferior to us". Fields voted in the March 15, 2016, Ohio Republican primary.

Fields' mother said that he had a pet cat, and that she was taking care of it during the rally. She did not know that her son was attending a white supremacist rally; instead, she thought that he was attending a Trump rally. She told him "to be careful, and if they're going to rally to make sure he's doing it peacefully". She said that she "would be surprised if her son's views were so far right that he would attend a white supremacist rally" and that he had an African-American friend. She told the Toledo Blade that she had not spoken with her son about his political views. Fields's Facebook page included memes and symbols associated with the far right. At the Unite the Right rally, the morning of the attack, Fields was seen wielding a Vanguard America shield. Vanguard America, a neo-Nazi organization, stated that it was not associated with Fields.

Victims:

Thirty-five people were injured in the incident, at least eight of whom sustained permanent and significant physical impairment.

One person was killed.

Heather Danielle Heyer, born May 29th, 1985, was the sole person to be killed in the attack:

Heyer lived alone save for a pet dog. Her friends described her "as a passionate advocate for the disenfranchised who was often moved to tears by the world's injustices", and said that she "spoke out against inequality and urged co-workers to be active in their community". According to her mother, Susan Bro, Heyer would ask people of opposing views why they had come to their beliefs. Bro said that they both advocated for Black Lives Matter, which Bro said fights for equal treatment.

Sentencing:

On December 7, Fields was found guilty of first-degree murder, hit and run, and eight counts of malicious wounding. On December 11, the jury recommended life in prison for the killing of Heather Heyer along with an additional 419 years for the other crimes committed: 70 years for each of five malicious wounding charges, 20 for each of three malicious wounding charges, and nine years on one charge of leaving the scene of an accident. On July 15, 2019, Fields was given a second life sentence for the murder of Heyer, with an additional 419 years for the other crimes.

The incidents of youths suffering sudden heart attacks and losing their lives are alarmingly increasing in the country. Most incidents of heart attacks among youths are reported from Uttar Pradesh. Another such incident where a youth walking on the street suffered heart attack has come to light from Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri district. The incident was caught on camera and the video of the horrific incident is doing rounds on social media.

It can be seen in the video that the youth who has been identified as Sumit Maurya (22) was walking on the road with a bag in his hand. He suddenly fell unconscious in the middle of the road and fell down. A car which was coming from behind hit him while he collapsing to the ground and the youth lost his life. It is said that the youth suffered heart attack while walking on the road.

The red coloured SUV was passing through the narrow and crowded lane, where Sumit was walking with a bag in his hand. The SUV hit his head while he was falling and he suffered serious injury on his head. He was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead by the hopital authorities

At least six people, including a pregnant mother and an infant, were killed Thursday when the driver of a Mercedes-Benz barreled through a busy Los Angeles intersection, ran a red light, and smashed into several vehicles — igniting a fireball that sent a plume of black smoke rising into the air.

Nicole Lorraine Linton, 37, was arrested Friday on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. She was released from Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center this weekend, where she had been hospitalized with moderate injuries. Linton was now being held on $9 million bail at the Century Regional Detention Center, according to jail records. It was initially set at $2 million.

A motorcyclist died from injuries he sustained when he collided into a minibus while performing a stunt on the St Margaret's Bay main road in Portland on Saturday.

A video of the two-vehicle bang-up has gone viral on social media.

The deceased is Rushawn Miller of Black Hill district, Portland.

Police reported that about 3:15 pm on Saturday, Miller was driving the motorcycle when he attempted to do a 'wheelie' and lost control of the unit, which slammed into a white minibus that was being driven in the opposite direction.

Miller was flung from the motorcycle upon impact, and sustained multiple injuries. He died at hospital.

In the viral video that appeared to have been recorded by another motorcyclist, Miller can be seen driving on both sides of the roadway.

He then attempted to drive the motorcycle on one wheel across the median into the opposite side of the roadway, where he was hit by the oncoming minibus.

"No fadda Gad (God), no!" shouted the videographer after the collision occurred.

Miller was seen lying on the side of the road before the video ended.

There have been mixed reactions to the video on social media, with some persons blaming the motorcyclist for causing his own death, while others insisted that the minibus driver should have slowed down.

"I'm praying for him (the motorcyclist) and his family. We all did silly stuff when we were young. It's not the time to play blame game," said a man on Facebook.

"The bus driver could have slowed down when he saw him (the motorcyclist) from afar," a woman suggested.

"Young people do crazy things. Prayers for his family," she added.

Another woman disagreed with that view, arguing that the bus driver should not be blamed.

"He (motorcyclist) was the one who swerved into the bus. Watch the video again," she stated.
