A woman who was paraded half-naked and then burned by residents in the town of Sorong, West Papua, has been pronounced dead. The victim died after undergoing treatment at Selebesolu Hospital (RS).
“The information about the incident actually happened. The victim was pronounced dead at around 08:50 WIT by doctors at Selebesolu Hospital,” said Sorong City Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head, Iptu Adul Bayu Ananda when confirmed by detik.com, Tuesday (24/ 01/2023).
Bayu said the victim was beaten, forced to be half-naked, paraded and burned by residents because she was mistaken for a child kidnapper. Meanwhile, the police were unable to separate the masses because there were a large number of residents.
“Therefore, the incident occurred at around 6:30 am WIT, members of the East Sorong Police responded quickly. However, the number of people at that time was very large, making the members unable to disperse the victim's people,” he said.
Bayu also regretted the actions of the residents. Furthermore, there is no evidence that says the victim is the perpetrator of child kidnapping.
“Indeed, lately there have been many rumors about the existence of information about child theft. But this is a scam. So far, we have not found any stolen or reported missing children,” he explained.
“The vigilante incident occurred because the victim was accused of looking similar to the photo in the pamphlet that was circulating among the public. But that is not justified in judging people,” he added.
As previously reported, a woman in Sorong town was beaten and paraded around half-naked and then set on fire by several residents. The victim was accused of being a child kidnapper.
In circulating photos and videos seen by detik.com, several residents appear to be surrounding the woman who appears beaten. The woman also appeared to be wearing only pants.
Police officers were also seen trying to interrupt the residents' actions. However, the police could not do much because there were many more residents.
The woman in the video can also be seen being paraded by residents on the street. The residents then threw gasoline on the woman to set her on fire, accompanied by screams from other residents who joined in the provocation.

Bandits set fire to a couple in the early hours of Tuesday (22) in a thicket in the Pacheco neighborhood, near BR-101.
Couple name: Rudimar Gonçalves Müller & Thuane Gonçalves da Cruz
The body of a young man, 18, was found and identified by the police. the girl body is still missing.
Criminals filmed the action and shared the cruelty in social networks.
The videos show the bandits torturing the young man and then setting the victim on fire. Then they burn the girl.
Delegate Raquel Freire, head of the Division of Criminal Investigation of the Municipality, informs that teams were during the day in the region, but did not find the victim.
According to the delegate, there is evidence that the young woman was also the victim of homicide. However, without the body there is no way to confirm.
About sharing the videos, Raquel Freire is tough:
They were filmed by the killers by their will, in an action to claim these deaths, motivated by the dispute of points of sale of drugs.
What matters is that the intention to viralizar these videos is precisely to shock the population and to impose the fear.
So far, none of the killers have been arrested. Next to the male´s body, the bandits fixed a written sign "died because it's cagueta" (police informant).
