Vandalia, Ohio. On June 22, 2013, a plane carrying wingwalker Jane Wicker aboard the Vectren Dayton Air Show crashed, killing both Wicker and pilot Charlie Schwenker.
Wingwalker Wicker had laid down on the underside of the left lower wing during a preflight.
Pilot Charlie Schwenker flipped the plane upside down and tilted the nose slightly above the horizon in front of his eyes as he flew.
Then the plane made a sharp turn and crashed, bursting into flames amid the screams of spectators.
The plane rolled abruptly to the right and struck the ground in a descending attitude with the left wing low.
A spectator at the event could not say exactly what happened, but it appeared the plane had entered a spin and lacked enough airspeed, he said. He thanked the pilot for getting out of the way of spectators and possibly saving a life. After impact, the aircraft burst into flames, destroying most of the right wing and the front of the fuselage.
