An elderly man was killed by a man suspected of being a robber in his home on Klambir Lima Street, Medan Helvetia District, Medan City, North Sumatra, on Monday (18/3/2024) night.

The incident occurred while the elderly man was on a video call with his son. The victim was found dead with stab wounds on his back. The victim, named Bima Peranginangin (82), was found sitting on the living room floor covered in blood.

Personnel from the Medan Helvetia Police Station, along with the identification team from the Medan Metropolitan Police, went to the scene and immediately processed the crime scene and questioned several witnesses.

The officers then evacuated the victim's body to Bhayangkara Hospital Medan for autopsy purposes.

Irfan Sinaga, a neighbor of the victim, said that the robbery and murder incident occurred around 22.00 WIB at night.

At that time, the victim was receiving a video call from his son who was out of town. The son informed the victim that there was someone behind him.

The victim shouted for help from his neighbors and went outside. After informing the neighbor, the victim went back into his house and was suddenly attacked with a sharp weapon by a man waiting inside the house.

"It happened when the victim was video calling with his son, his son said there was someone behind him. So, the victim went out to Alex place, the barber. Shortly after, the victim returned home alone and was stabbed from behind. Alex ran away because the perpetrator had a sharp weapon," said Irfan, on Tuesday (19/3/2024).

Landslide in Papua New Guinea killed more than 670 people

(Click on the link above to view video of aftermath of the slide)

The impact of Friday's landslide (May 24, 2024) in the isolated Enga province of Papua New Guinea was greater than initially thought. There are an estimated 150-plus houses now buried.

At least 670 people died.

Local residents have been forced to abandon 250 homes in areas not directly affected by the landslide after cracks began to appear in the ground.

There were a number of challenges facing teams trying to recover bodies, including reluctance by some grieving relatives to let heavy machinery near their loved ones.

People are using digging sticks, spades, large agricultural forks to remove the bodies buried under the soil.

Debris from the landslide, which includes large boulders, trees and displaced soil, is up to 8m (26ft) deep in some areas.

There is only one main road into Enga Province and Care Australia said debris had fallen across large swathes of it, limiting access to the rescue site.

Tribal violence along the main road could complicate relief efforts, according to Mr Aktoprak.

The unrest was unrelated to the landslide, adding: "In one day alone, a total of eight persons had been killed, five business stores and 30 houses had been burnt down."

Papua New Guinea has a population of more than 11.7 million people. With around 850 indigenous languages, it is the most linguistically diverse country on Earth, according to the World Bank.

And you're going to hell if you laughed 20 seconds into the video.
