LYNCHBURG, Va. — A Lynchburg man is in custody after police say two people were shot at a Waffle House earlier Sunday morning, according to video and reports.

Lynchburg Police said at 2:58 a.m., officers responded to the Waffle House on Wards Road in reference to a large fight. As officers were en route, 911 calls came in about shots being fired during the incident. When officers arrived on the scene, they found two people with gunshot wounds inside the Waffle House. LPD officers provided aid until medics arrived.

The suspect, identified as Omarian Fitch, drove away in what is believed to be a black Nissan sedan. According to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail, Fitch is only 21 years old.

At approximately 5:00 p.m., LPD officers saw Fitch getting into a vehicle. The officers then chased the car through several city streets, according to LPD. Eventually, police said the car crashed at the intersection of Old Mill Road and McConville Road. Fitch got out of the car and ran away on foot but was caught shortly after.

According to LPD, both victims, a 30-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman, are in stable condition. Both individuals are currently being treated at the Lynchburg General Hospital.

A man who imprisoned his own daughter in the basement for 24 years and had 7 children with her. Josef Fritzl was born in Amstetten, Austria, on April 9, 1935. At the time, Austria was under the control of Nazi Germany. His father abandoned the family when he was four years old and later died in the war, leaving him to be raised by his mother, who often beat him severely. Later in life, he was very strict and disciplined. At the age of 21, he married a woman named Rosemarie, who was four years younger than him and worked as a kitchen helper. At some unknown point, he graduated from a technical college with a qualification in electrical engineering and worked at Voestalpine, an Austria-based steel company. For a while, he worked in mail-order lingerie, but gave up on it in 1972 and bought an inn and campsite near Salzburg.

Josef and Rosemarie had seven children together, including two sons and five daughters, including Elisabeth, whom he reportedly started sexually abusing as early as 1977, when she was 11 years old.

Tired of getting raped and beaten, Elisabeth would run away from home a few times. On January 1983 she ran away from home and went into hiding in Vienna with a friend from work. She was found by police within three weeks and returned to her parents. Josef developed a plan to make sure that she could never escape again. He planned to keep her imprisoned in their basement, so that she could never escape again.

On 28 August 1984, after Elisabeth turned 18, Fritzl lured her into the basement of the family home, saying that he needed help carrying a door. In reality, Fritzl had been converting the basement into a makeshift prison chamber, the door was the last thing he needed to seal it. After Elisabeth held the door in place while Fritzl fitted it into the frame, he held an ether-soaked towel on her face until she was unconscious, then threw her into the chamber.

After Elisabeth's disappearance, Rosemarie, Elisabeth's mother filed a missing persons report. Almost a month later, Fritzl handed over a letter to the police, the first of several that he had forced Elisabeth to write while she was in captivity. The letter, stated that she was tired of living with her family and was staying with a friend. She warned her parents not to look for her or she would leave the country. Fritzl told police that she had most likely joined a cult. Elizabeth turned 18, so there was nothing the police could do about runaway complaints. Josef made her believe that poisonous gas would be pumped in the room if she tried to escape and that she would get electrified if she would open the door.

Everyone believed that Elizabeth ran away and had joined a cult, but in reality she was living under their feet in the basement of the family home. Over the next 24 years the horror for Elisabeth was unrelenting, the cold, the damp, the rats, which she was sometimes forced to catch with her bare hands, the water that ran off the walls in such large quantities she had to use towels to soak it up. Summer, when the place turned into an intolerable sweaty sauna, was the worst time of year.

Over the 24 years that he had her imprisoned, Fritzl often raped his daughter, and she had seven children with him. One of the children, a twin called Michael, died shortly after his birth in the cellar in 1996. He had severe breathing difficulties and expired in his mother's arms when he was just 66 hours old.

Fritzl admitted he subsequently burned the baby's body in an incinerator. He sexually abused and raped her sometimes several times a day. Often the kids had to watch the abuse as they grew older.

The house at Ybbsstrasse 40 in Amstetten, Austria, where Josef Fritzl imprisoned his daughter Elisabeth Fritzl in a basement prison. The police eventually found out about his crimes when one of the children became very sick and he took her to the hospital. On 19 April 2008, Elisabeth's eldest daughter fell unconscious and Fritzl agreed to seek medical attention. Elisabeth helped him carry Kerstin out of the chamber and saw the outside world for the first time in 24 years. He forced Elisabeth to return to the chamber, where she remained for a final week. Kerstin was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, the Landesklinikum Amstetten, and was admitted in serious condition with life-threatening kidney failure. Fritzl later arrived at the hospital claiming to have found a note written by Kerstin's mother. He discussed Kerstin's condition and the note with a doctor, Albert Reiter.

Medical staff found aspects of Fritzl's story puzzling and alerted the police on 21 April. The police broadcast an appeal on public media for the missing mother to come forward and provide information about Kerstin's medical history. The police reopened the case file on Elisabeth's disappearance. Fritzl repeated his story about Elisabeth being in a cult, and presented what he claimed was the most recent letter from her, dated January 2008, posted from the town of Kematen. The police contacted Manfred Wohlfahrt, a church officer and expert on cults, who raised doubts about the existence of the group Fritzl described. He noted that Elisabeth's letters seemed dictated and oddly written.

Elisabeth pleaded with Fritzl to be taken to the hospital. On 26 April, he released her from the cellar along with her sons Stefan and Felix, bringing them upstairs. He and Elisabeth went to the hospital where Kerstin was being treated on 26 April 2008. Following a tip-off from Dr. Reiter that Fritzl and Elisabeth were at the hospital, the police detained them on the hospital grounds and took them to a police station for questioning.

Elisabeth did not provide police with more details until they promised her that she would never have to see her father again. Over the next two hours, she told the story of her 24 years in captivity. Elisabeth recounted that Fritzl raped her and forced her to watch pornographic videos, which he made her re-enact with him in front of her children in order to humiliate her. Shortly after midnight, police officers completed the investigation. Fritzl, aged 73, was arrested on 26 April 2008 on suspicion of serious crimes against family members.

During the night of 27 April, Elisabeth, her children and her mother Rosemarie were taken into care. Police said Fritzl told investigators how to enter the basement chamber through a small hidden door, opened by a secret keyless entry code. Rosemarie had been unaware of what had been happening to Elisabeth.

On 29 April, it was announced that DNA evidence confirmed Fritzl as the biological father of his daughter's children. His defence lawyer, Rudolf Mayer, said that although the DNA test proved incest, evidence was still needed for the allegations of rape and enslavement. Arrest trial of Josef Fritzl march 16, 2009

He was sentenced to life imprisonment for incest, rape, coercion, false imprisonment, enslavement and for the negligent homicide of one of his infant sons. The basement where Elisabeth was held has since been filled in by the Austrian authorities to prevent other perverts from worshipping it as a shrine. Elisabeth was given a new name following Josef's trial, which saw strict laws introduced to prevent her identity from being revealed. Since then, Austrian authorities and residents have made great efforts to protect the family's privacy. Elisabeth Fritzl and her children all have new identities now, and their exact whereabouts remain a mystery.

In May 2017, Josef Fritzl changed his name to Josef Mayrhoff, probably due to getting into a prison fight that resulted in several of his teeth getting knocked out after other inmates set up a fake dating profile with his name and picture.

Mark Perry, a British journalist who interviewed Fritzl in his cell, says he has shown no remorse for his crimes. He recalls he kept saying "just look into the cellars of other people, you might find other families and girls down there. In April 2019, it was reported that Fritzl's health was declining and that he did not want to live anymore.

In September 2021, a decision was made to release Fritzl from a psychiatric detention facility to a regular prison, where he was to continue to serve his life sentence. That decision was based on a psychiatric report which said he no longer posed any danger. The ruling was appealed and overturned in November 2021, and the Regional Court of Krems was ordered to reconsider the case. In late-April 2022, a panel of three judges decided that Josef Fritzl could be moved. The decision was based on a supplementary psychiatric report submitted in March. However, the court ruled that he would remain in the psychiatric facility until an appeal to the Higher Regional Court in Vienna was heard. The move to a regular prison would mean that Fritzl, who received a life sentence, was eligible for parole in 2023, having served the initial 15 years of his sentence. In January 2024, Fritzl applied to Krems regional court for release from prison into a nursing home, but the application was rejected.

On January 25, 2024, the Higher Regional Court approved Fritzl's move to a regular prison, amid reports that he was suffering from dementia. Within a week, prosecutors had filed a complaint seeking to overturn the decision in a higher court. If Fritzl is moved to a regular prison, he will be eligible for parole in 2025.

Scaphism, also known as "the boats," is an ancient Persian method of execution that dates back to the 5th century BC. This brutal and gruesome form of punishment involved trapping the victim between two boats or hollowed-out tree trunks, then force-feeding them a mixture of milk and honey. The intended result of scaphism was a slow and agonizing death caused by a combination of dehydration, starvation, and septic shock.

Historically, scaphism was used by the Persians as a means of public execution for those who had committed crimes such as treason or rebellion against the state. The idea behind scaphism was not only to punish the offender but also to serve as a deterrent to others who might consider defying the ruling powers. THE INTERPRETED AFTERMATH OF SCAPHISM:

Hello once again snuff freaks, i am back with another lethal dose of metal for you, this time in the form of the legendary one man brutal death metal ASSAULT, Syphilic. Founded in Detroit USA in 2005, Syphilic has been putting out harsh, phrenetic and near incomprehensible brutal death metal since his first record, “Erotishock Therapy”. Known for his extremely shocking and offensive album cover art, (almost exclusively drawn by the legendary Tony Cosgrove) Syphilics subject matter covers a wide array of all things shocking and taboo. From outright murder/torture to anti-political themes, anti religion and in this case (and some others) true crime cases.

On June 20th 2001 Andrea Pia Yates drowned her five children, John, Paul, Luke, Noah and Mary Yates in their home bathtub in Houston Tx. Yates started with John, Paul, and Luke, and then laid them in her bed. She then drowned Mary, whom she left floating in the tub. Noah came in and asked what was wrong with Mary. He then ran, but Yates soon caught and drowned him. She left him floating in the tub, and laid Mary in John's arms in the bed. She then called the police, repeatedly saying she needed an officer but refusing to say why. She then called her husband Rusty and told him to come home right away. Yates was tried for the murders of her children, but was found not guilty by reason of insanity on July 26th, 2006.

A police report also says that the trained medic cooked some of his lover's body parts in her oven and flushed some of her remains down the toilet.

Tikhonov had enjoyed a night out with Nina in Kursk, western Russia, before the couple returned to her flat.

They were having sex when he realised that she had undergone surgery.

Police interrogators allege that he then strangled Nina on her bed.

“He stopped only when she had no more signs of life,” the cops' report claims.

Tikhonov then tried to hide the murder by chopping up Nina's corpse in the bathroom.

The gruesome police report claims he “cut out her internal organs" and chopped them into small pieces which he flushed down the toilet.

The doctor then carved off chunks of flesh which he “put into the oven”, roasting them “to evaporate excess liquid”.

Tikhonov, who denied he was a cannibal, reportedly told police he had flushed the cooked human flesh down the toilet.

He then packed Nina's head and limbs into a suitcase and took her butchered remains to his flat, according to the crime report.

Using a rasp, he sawed off her limbs and ribs, which he tossed into rubbish bins.

At this point, police came to detain him after Nina's mum reported her missing.

Officers discovered the grisly sight of her head still attached to the spine - which he had covered in salt “to get rid of the smell”.

The report adds: “He had no time to get rid of these body parts as he was caught."

Tikhonov, who was trained as a doctor, faces up to 20 years in jail if convicted of murder and mutilating a corpse.

Five people have died in an accident while boarding a launch at Dhaka's Sadarghat. The accident occurred around 3pm on Thursday, according to Mahfuzur Rahman Mia, chief of the Kotwali Police Station.

“Those passengers were waiting at the pontoon when a rope tore and the launch rammed them,” he said.

Two launches – the MV Tashrif-4 and the MV Pubali-1 were tied to the No. 11 pontoon with rope, the Fire Service said in a statement.

“Another launch named the Farhan was trying to dock between the two launches and the MV Tashrif-4's rope tore,” the statement added.

The dead have been identified as Rabiul, 19, Bellal, 25, his wife Mukta, 26, their daughter Maisha, 3 - all identified with a single name - and Ripon Howlader, 38, said Abul Kalam Azad, chief of the Sadarghat River Police Station.

Edmund Emil Kemper III born on December 18, 1948, in Burbank, California, is an American serial killer convicted of murdering seven women and one girl, between May 1972 to April 1973. Years earlier, at the age of 15, Kemper had murdered his grandparents.

Weighing 5.9 kg as a newborn, Kemper was a head taller than his peers by the age of four. Early on, he exhibited antisocial behavior such as cruelty to animals. At the age of 10, he buried a pet cat alive, then dug it up, decapitated it, and mounted its head on a spike. Kemper later stated that he derived pleasure from successfully lying to his family about killing the cat.

After his parents divorce in 1957, he moved with his mother and two sisters to Montana. Kemper had a difficult relationship with his alcoholic mother, as she was very critical of him, and he blamed her for all of his problems. When he was 10 years old, she forced him to live in the basement, away from his sisters, whom she feared he might harm in some way. Kemper's first 2 victims were his own grandparent's. He murdered them when he was 15 years old.

On August 27, 1964, Edmund Kemper killed his grandparents at their ranch in North Fork, California. His grandfather bought in a .22 caliber rifle and taught him how to shoot it. Kemper spent hours in the bushes shooting at birds, gophers and other small animals to annoy his grandmother who didn't want him killing animals. Edmund Sr. eventually took away the rifle at the behest of Maude, who didn't see the point in killing things just for the sake of killing them. This punishment infuriated Kemper, as the weapon served as an outlet for his growing aggression. Confined at home, Kemper's anger started to simmer, and he began to transfer his hatred for his domineering mother to his domineering grandmother. Kemper's grandfather was running errands at the grocery store and the post office. His grandmother was working in the kitchen. Kemper was sitting at the kitchen table with her. They started to argue after he stared at her. Enraged, Kemper stormed off and retrieved the confiscated rifle that his grandfather had given him for hunting. He decided to go hunting and went outside. His grandmother told him Oh, you'd better not be shooting the birds again. He stopped to look in through the screen window. He had fantasized about killing her before. She was facing away from him. He raised his rifle aimed at the back of her head, and fired through the screen. His grandmother slumped forward on the table. He shot her twice in the head and once in the back. He then wrapped her head in a towel and dragged her body to the bedroom, went to get a knife and stabbed her three times. His grandfather soon returned home and Kemper went outside to greet him. Edmund Sr. nodded, smiled and waved to his grandson as he began unloading food and supplies from the truck. Kemper returned the greeting and sneaked up to his grandfather and shot him in the back of his head with the rifle. Kemper dragged his grandfather's body to the garage and washed the blood from his hands with a garden hose. Back inside the house, Kemper had a passing thought about undressing his dead grandmother and exploring her body sexually to satisfy his carnal curiosity, but he shook it from his mind as being too perverted.

He was unsure of what to do next, so he phoned his mother, who told him to sit tight while she called the Madera County Sheriff. Kemper also called the police to make sure they would come. He was diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic by court psychiatrists and sentenced to the Atascadero State Hospital as a criminally insane juvenile.

During his stay at the hospital he acted as a model prisoner and was released 6 years later. During his time in the hospital he was given an IQ test that measured his IQ at 136. Later he was given another IQ test, which produced a higher result of 145. After he was free, Kemper continued to demonstrate to his psychiatrists that he was rehabilitated and on November 29, 1972, his juvenile records were permanently expunged. The last report from his probation psychiatrist says. If I were to see this patient without having any history available or getting any history from him, I would think that we're dealing with a very well-adjusted young man who had initiative, intelligence and who was free of any psychiatric illnesses. It is my opinion that he has made a very excellent response to the years of treatment and rehabilitation and I would see no psychiatric reason to consider him to be of any danger to himself or to any member of society. Since it may allow him more freedom as an adult to develop his potential, I would consider it reasonable to have a permanent expunction of his juvenile records. He went back to live with his mother and tried to stay out of trouble. He even tried to become a police officer for a while, but he was rejected not because of his criminal record which was expunged, but because of his huge size. Edmund Kemper is a tall man, standing 2,06 meters. I would say that's a huge win to have someone like that on the force and i don't really know why someone would be rejected to join the police force because of that, but if someone knows let me know.

THE CO-ED MURDERS

They were both 18 years old. On May 5th, 1972 Kemper picked them up at Stanford University with a friend she was with Anita. He wanted to rape them both but decided on murder. Ed drove off the highway and went to a dirt road. He handcuffed Mary to the back seat and stabbed her. She put up a big fight and bit through the bag she had on her head. Ed ended up slitting her throat and killed her. Kemper forced Anita into the trunk of the car. Once, Mary Ann was dead he focused on her and killed her as well, to leave no witnesses. On September 14, 1972, Aiko was at a bus stop on her way to San Francisco to attend a dance class, but she was tired of waiting for the bus and accepted the ride offered by Kemper. He drove her to a remote place. He then suffocated her enough to just make her black out and then he raped her. Ed then strangled her and put her body in the trunk. He went to a bar afterward and got a few drinks, then he went home to dismember her, just like his previous 2 victims.

On January 8, 1973, Miss Schall was walking down Mission Avenue in Santa Cruz, hitchhiking to go to class at Cabrillo College. Kemper picked her up and drove her to the hills near Watsonville, where he forced her into the trunk of his car and shot her in the head with his 22. Caliber pistol. She died instantly. He drove to his mother's house, where he kept her body hidden in a closet in his room overnight. When his mother left for work the next morning, he had sexual intercourse with her, then dismembered and decapitated her in his mother's bathtub.

Kemper kept Schall's severed head for several days, regularly engaging in irrumatio with it. Irrumatio is a form of oral sex in which someone thrusts their penis into another person's mouth. He then buried the remains in his mother's garden facing upward toward her bedroom. Her head was later found in the garden.

Police officers carefully rake through the back garden of Kemper's mom's home, while forensic experts photograph the scene. It wasn't long before her severed head was found buried by the garden fence.

The missing co-ed student's were starting to get known in the area, and the student's were told not to enter the car of strangers. students had been advised to accept rides only from cars with university stickers on them. Kemper was able to obtain a sticker, as his mother worked at a school. On February 5, 1973, Kemper had an argument with his mother again, and decided to go out and take his anger and frustration out on more college student's. He saw Miss Thorpe and Miss Liu, on the UC Santa Cruz campus. Miss Thorpe entered his car first, which apparently reassured Liu to also enter. Right after leaving the university grounds, Kemper fatally shot Thorpe and Liu with a .22 caliber pistol. He then wrapped their bodies in blankets, and placed them both in the backseat of his car. He again brought the victim's back to his mother's home. Kemper was first eligible for parole in 1979. He was denied parole that year, as well as at parole hearings in 1980, 1981, and 1982. He subsequently waived his right to a hearing in 1985. He was denied parole at his 1988 hearing, where he said, Society is not ready in any shape or form for me. I can't fault them for that. He was denied parole again in 1991 and in 1994. He then waived his right to a hearing in 1997 and in 2002. He attended the next hearing in 2007, where he was again denied parole. Prosecutor Ariadne Symons said, We don't care how much of a model prisoner he is because of the enormity of his crimes. Kemper waived his right to a hearing again in 2012. He was denied parole in 2017 and is next eligible this year scheduled for July 9. But he will most likely be denied parole again. Edmund Kemper is 75 years old right now.

A Riverhead man living in Oklahoma died yesterday after being attacked by a man with an axe Monday.

Tulsa Police said James “Jimi” Patterson, 22, was struck in the head with an axe Monday night in an apartment in Tulsa.

Police said Israel (AKA Isreal) Trejo, who was in the apartment to buy the axe from another person, swung the axe at Patterson, who was sitting on a couch in the apartment.

Patterson and Trejo never spoke to one another, according to police. After a few minutes of holding the axe, Trejo swung the axe and struck Patterson. Trejo then fled the scene but was captured by police shortly afterward.

Patterson was taken to the hospital with the axe still in his head, according to a police press release. He underwent surgery but succumbed to his injuries Thursday.

Trejo, who police said has a prior felony conviction, was initially charged with for Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The charge was upgraded to First Degree Murder after Patterson died.

Trejo is in custody in the Tulsa County Jail, police said.

A classmate of Patterson's at Riverhead High School started a GoFundMe page to raise money help pay funeral expenses.

“Jimi was such a great kid. Jimi had a great heart; he was very intelligent and was always the class clown keeping a smile on everyone's face. He was very talented when it came to making music which he loved to do,” wrote fundraising organizer Lexus Gilliam.

“During this tragic time for the Paterson family, we would like to reach out to our community and Jimi's friends and family to help bring him home for the last time. It would mean so much for all who love him to lay him to rest peacefully in the community he loved,” Gilliam wrote.

With a goal of $25,000, the page has raised $2,165 as of this posting on Friday evening.

General Info

The 2011 Norway attacks, were two domestic terrorist attacks by far right extremist Anders Behring Breivik against the government, the civilian population, and a Workers' Youth League (AUF) summer camp, in which a total of 77 people were killed. The first attack was a car bomb explosion in Oslo within Regjeringskvartalet, the executive government quarter of Norway, at 15:25 The bomb was placed inside a van next to the tower block housing the office of the then Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg. The explosion killed eight people and injured at least 209 people, 12 severely. The second attack occurred less than two hours later at a summer camp on the island of Utøya in Tyrifjorden, Buskerud. The camp was organised by the AUF, the youth wing of the ruling Norwegian Labour Party (AP). Breivik, dressed in a homemade police uniform and showing false identification, took a ferry to the island and opened fire at the participants, killing 69 and injuring 32.

Originally, Breivik planned to seek weapons in Germany or Serbia if his Prague mission failed. However, his disappointment in the Czech Republic led him to acquire his weapons legally. He obtained a semi-automatic rifle and a Glock pistol in Norway. He cited his "clean criminal record, hunting license, and ownership of two firearms (a Benelli Nova 12 gauge pump-action shotgun and a Weatherby Vanguard .308 bolt-action rifle) for seven years" as reasons why acquiring the firearms legally should pose no issue.

Upon returning to Norway, Breivik obtained a legal permit for a .223-caliber Ruger Mini-14 semi-automatic carbine, ostensibly for the purpose of hunting deer. He bought it in late 2010 for €1,400. He wanted to purchase a 7.62×39mm Ruger Mini-30 semi-automatic carbine, but decided for unknown reasons to buy the Mini-14.

Getting a permit for the pistol proved more difficult, as he had to demonstrate regular attendance at a sport shooting club. From November 2010 to January 2011, he went through 15 training sessions at the Oslo Pistol Club, and by mid-January, his application to purchase a Glock pistol was approved.

He also bought 10 30-round magazines for the rifle from a United States supplier and six magazines for the pistol (including four 30-round magazines) in Norway.

Breivik claimed in his manifesto that he bought 300g of sodium nitrate from a Polish shop for €10. Breivik's Polish purchases initially led to him being placed on the watch list of the Norwegian intelligence, which did not act because they did not believe his actions were relevant to their terror concerns.

The place of business was given as Åmot in Hedmark.

At 15:28 the first police patrol reported arriving at the scene, and after a few minutes a witness called police at 15:34 to report a person in a police uniform holding a pistol in his hand, entering an unmarked vehicle, a Fiat Doblò. the vehicle's licence plate number and description of the suspect was written on a yellow note, and hand delivered to the police operations central where it lay for 20 minutes before the witness was phoned back. The licence plate number was not transmitted on the police radio until two hours later.

Second Attack

Approximately one and a half hours after the Oslo explosion, Breivik, dressed in a police uniform and presenting himself as "Martin Nilsen" from the Oslo Police Department, boarded the ferry MS Thorbjørn at Utøykaia in Tyrifjorden, a lake some 32 kilometres (20 mi) northwest of Oslo, to the island of Utøya,the location of the Norwegian Labour Party's AUF youth camp. The camp is held there every summer and was attended by approximately 600 teenagers.

When Breivik arrived on the island, he presented himself as a police officer who had come over for a routine check following the bombing in Oslo. He was met by Monica Bøsei, the camp leader and island hostess. Bøsei probably became suspicious and contacted Trond Berntsen, the security officer on the island, before Breivik killed them both. He then signalled and asked people to gather around him before pulling weapons and ammunition from a bag and firing indiscriminately, killing and wounding numerous people. Breivik shot people on the island and later started shooting at people who were trying to escape by swimming across the lake. Dana Barzingi, then 21, described how several victims wounded by Breivik pretended to be dead, but he came back and shot them again. He spared an 11-year-old boy who had lost his father (Trond Berntsen) during the shooting and stood up against him and said “you are too young to die”, as well as a 22-year-old man who begged for his life.

Some witnesses hid in undergrowth and lavatories, communicating by text message to avoid revealing their positions.

The mass shooting lasted for around an hour and a half, ending when a police special task force arrived and Breivik surrendered, despite having ammunition left, at 18:35. The shooter used hollow-point or frangible bullets which increase tissue damage. Breivik repeatedly shouted "You will die today, Marxists, liberals, members of the elite!"

Residents in a flotilla of motorboats and fishing dinghies sailed out to rescue the survivors, who were pulled out shivering and bleeding from the water and picked up from hiding places in the bushes and behind rocks around the island's shoreline. Some survived by pretending to be dead. Several campers, especially those who knew the island well, swam to the island's rocky west side and hid in the caves which are only accessible from the water. Others were able to hide away on the secluded Kjærlighetsstien ("love path"). Forty-seven of the campers sought refuge in Skolestua ("the School House") together with personnel from the Norwegian People's Aid. Although Breivik fired two bullets through the door, he did not get through the locked door, and the people inside this building survived.

Breivik Sentence

On 24 August 2012, beginning approximately 10 a.m. CEST, the court formally began to read the verdict against Breivik. At a press conference after the verdict, the prosecuting attorneys announced that they would not appeal either.
