As well as that, he'd have been to weak to truly escape
that situation regardless. Have you ever stood up too fast, had your vision 
turn black/grainy/blurry, and felt like you need to sit down? That's due to a drop in blood 
pressure, also resulting in (mild) hypoxia. Imagine that 10x. That's what he'd have experienced here.

I could be wrong, but it seems like when he was choking, his brain wasn't getting enough oxygen. That's probably why he couldn't get the strength to get up. You can see him trying to lift his arms to save himself, but he just couldn't bring them any higher than his neck.

I was born in 89 and I remember in elementary school. These kids asked me if I want to know what it feels like to be on meth. So they showed me on themselves.
