Really old elevators were basically moving see-through cages with "scissor" doors like this. You didn't have a lot of privacy in them. In my city (Buenos Aires) some very old buildings still have them. This elevator is newer than that, not a "cage" yet I suppose there's no regulation against having these types of scissor doors. Combine that with children being dumb and this is the result.
