Chinese Weightlifter Suffocates After Barbell Drops on His Neck (full video)

Wuhan

At the Pacific Fitness Club, a 25-year-old man, surnamed Zhang, died when a barbell pressed onto his throat while he was bench pressing. According to the gym's manager, Zhang was a regular at the club, often lifting barbells exceeding 100kg in weight. The manager believed that Zhang may have overestimated his own strength and exceeded his physical limits, leading to the tragedy.

According to eyewitnesses, the venue was not well lit, and by the time two coaches realized what had happened, and removed the barbell from Zhang's neck before performing CPR, it was futile. As Zhang was a familiar member, the coaches - there were three or four on scene - weren't closely monitoring him.

Real men don't bench with an arch in their back.

Dude was ego lifting with clips on the weight and no spotter. He fucked around and definitely found out!

You're a fucking moron. Back arch is to incorporate leg drive, making a stiffer back and allowing you to press more. It's a technique powerlifters use.

This is the mens 93kg world record bench press by Kostiantyn Musiienko. Clearly arching his back. It has nothing to do with being a "man," its a technique used to maximize pressing potential.

I know right? I don't get the point of "arching" the back to lift. Sure it helps arching a bit (I can be wrong, I admit), but he was doing a McDonalds arc xP
