It may have been much more destructive than it looks. While you're probably right with your guess on how he died, there definitely could have been some internal injuries. Also, we can only see his front. For all we know, his spinal column was sticking out of his ass.

It took 34 minutes for them to get him loose. Depending on what kind of building this is and whether they have on-site maintenance people, that's probably a pretty good response time for getting someone who knows how to override the elevator and crank the car back down. Unless they called the fire department. A fire department should have been there quicker.
But, if he was dead in two or three minutes then nobody could have done anything anyway, because once they started lowering the elevator it still took more than three minutes to free him.
