Shamsul Haque, president of Rahmania Noorani Hafizia Madrasa in the Rangpur district town, said Tanvir Abdullah Talha was admitted to their madrasa last year and became Hafiz within a year. "According to the madrasa tradition, he was supposed to be recognised as Hafiz on February 8 by wearing a turban. " Tanvir Abdullah Talha was son of Khanjan Ali, an army sergeant of Rangpur cantonment. Tanvir went missing on Wednesday (January 31, 2018) afternoon after having lunch at home. On Thursday night, police recovered the headless body wrapped in mattress after breaking the lock of the first floor of Bhagibalapara Jama Masjid adjacent to the madrasa. The next day, at noon on Friday, the head wrapped in a red cloth was recovered from the water tank of the same mosque.
Several teachers and students were arrested, but the source did not furthur update the specific suspect. Some locals said the new Hafiz was killed by a group who had political conflicts with his father.
