i forgot what your body does if you lose a limb, was it something like your body will constrict blood flow to the missing limb for a short period of time?

kind of yeah. If your arm is brutally ripped off (or mauled in some way) it may have a better chance of constircted bloodflow although itll bleed more from a clean cut such as a knife or sudden chopping off.
