BMW Crash Kills College Girl

This is an old set, been posted here and there for about 15 years now. I haven't seen it on WA though, and a brief search indicates that most older versions of it have fallen off of wherever they were warehoused.

This occurred in Victoria, Mexico back in 2007. The decedent is a 18 year old college student named Kenat Martinez Cabriales. She was out drinking at the bar with some friends and wound up flirting with a young man who was buying them all drinks. When the night ended, he offered her a ride home. Not sure whether to his place (likely) or her place (possible), but her friends said she was happy to go with him. He was attractive, wealthy, and driving a very nice BMW. Unfortunately, he was also staggering drunk. Less than 2 miles from the bar, he smashed the BMW into a light post while going an estimated speed of more than 80mph. The guy suffered only minor injuries, but his date hit the dashboard with her face and suffered a strong enough head injury to kill her on the spot.

Her family attempted to sue him for the damages, but his wealth and connections allowed him to evade both criminal and civil penalties. He wound up being ordered to pay her family the equivalent some of 16 US dollars for the death of their daughter.

@VaughnDag I can't find anything about the drunk privileged jerk who killed her let alone any information on the girl. When you google search her name, nothing comes up. Where did you get your information from? Thanks in advance ☺️

The problem is that it's been almost 20 years at this point and the news cycle on the internet isn't that robust.

Most websites that covered it at the time were based in Mexico and they are all defunct now. Newspapers that have closed down, moved to other platforms, etc.

I got my information directly from two members of her family, one of her friends at the bar that night, a collection of news articles, and in largest part from a friend of mine who was a young journalist at the time, working the Nota Roja beat in Victoria. She changed careers and the platform we used to stay in communication shut down more than a decade ago so I am no longer in touch with her.

The information and all of the photos were uploaded to various websites over the years. First Ogrish, UR, and Kiuma, all of which are also now gone. Then Goregrish, DR, and the YNC, etc...but most versions on those sites are incomplete. Missing photos, missing names. I wrote a lengthy case report on the incident with all the info I had compiled, but for some reason it is now 404'd when I go t find it. The case notes I included here were from my memory and a small notepad file in a folder with these photos. But this was obviously an auxiliary folder, since I know it is missing a lot of details. I cannot find the original case folder if it still exists. I have been doing this for almost 30 years and have been through dozens of PCs and removable drives in that time.

Basically, what you see is what you get. I likely won't make time for a fruitless search through 20 TBs of poorly sorted data to see if I can find more specifics to post on a gore site, especially since I have done that with this case a half dozen times at least over the years. Sorry, but it is what it is.

The only data I can give you that was not included in my original writeup here is that five years after the incident, he had moved to Miami, Florida and was living under a different name. But my last data on record for him is from 2012 and obviously not current.

Wow super interesting to have read all that! Thank you so much for your detailed reply. I sort of figured that may have been the case given in on of the pics she seems to be holding a non smart phone.

That's truly tragic the ruling was only $16. What an insult. No money can bring back their loved one but that was just ridiculous. Unfortunately many latin America countries are like this. They are beautiful countries but the problem and the danger is the corruption which permeates throughout latin America.

This story reminds me of a story in Bogota Colombia. A man was accused of raping amd killing a young girl and leaving her for dead in an abandoned building. His family was wealthy and influential and he was let go. The people of Bogota protested and I believe he was re arrested and had a retrial and is serving jail time now. I imagine the BMW dbag moved to Miami to escape similar scrutiny and/or pending persecution or revenge. A lot of times in latin America Street justice is carried out. I very much prefer this over the corruption intertwined within the judicial system. You can get away with murder and manslaughter if you have enough money or the right connections but you cannot escape the Lord's judgement.

Thanks again for taking the time to leave such a detailed response.

Well shit. Never doubt your own brain, even when you're over the hill, I guess.

I found it after all.

The guy's name was Francisco Banda Caballero. Accident occurred on February 25, 2007 in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas.
