A young woman's screams alerted nearby residents to call police and investigate a likely violent encounter in a nearby alleyway. By the time they got there, it was already too late for 22 year old Manvi Tomar. The college student was discovered lying amidst her scattered textbooks and belongings, bleeding profusely from multiple deep cuts to the throat. She was already deceased, so the people could do nothing but await the arrival of authorities to clean up the body.
The investigation determined that she had been stalked and harassed for months by an older man named Sagar. She had tried to rebuff him many times, and her family had also intervened telling him to leave her alone. He continued following her around and making advances until the morning of her death. The enclosed CCTV image shows the two of them walking less than an hour before her death. According to him, he finally revealed that he was actually married, though no one can say why he would tell this to a younger girl he was chasing. In any case, she apparently decided to use this as leverage to back him off and threatened to tell his wife and children if he didn't leave her alone.
So he punched her in the face, knocked her to the the ground and then held her down and cut her throat. He then fled, leaving her to bleed out in the dirt. He is currently awaiting trial.
