Murder-suicide of 2 friends Estephane Paiva, 19, and Analice Mendes, 20 Rio, Brazil

RIO - The Civil Police tries to understand what motivated the death of two young women in the community of Rocinha, in the south of Rio. Estephane Paiva, 19, and Analice Mendes, 20, were found dead in the early hours of Thursday (29), with knife injuries.

The Military Police says that witnesses said that the two, who are childhood friends, fought and that one would have stabbed the other and then taken their own life. However, the version is contested by the family.

"No one knows what happened, no one heard anything, the house was intact, with nothing broken, with the light off. When the person entered the apartment, he found the two dead. They were childhood friends. Born and raised together since Ceará. There was no fight," said Maria de Fátima Mendes, Analice's cousin.

Estephane and Analice are from Ceará and recently lived in Rio. Analice worked in a coffee shop at Shopping da Gávea, in the south zone, and had lived in Rocinha for about a year with her husband. Estephane arrived in the capital of Rio de Janeiro a short time ago. Previously, she lived in São Paulo and moved to Rio to get work.
