EFFORTPOST This is the story of the murders of Joel Guy Senior and his wife, Lisa Guy, by their son, Joel Guy Jr, on November 26, 2016.

Joel Guy Sr (61) and Lisa Guy Jr (55) were getting ready to retire and sell their Knoxville, TN home in the month of November in 2016. They had a buyer for the home, and had started to pack up their belongings in the house. While they were getting ready to move, they had their Thanksgiving family gathering at their home on Nov 23, 2016, with one of their daughters, Michelle Tyler, her two young sons, and the Guy’s only son, then 28 year old Joel Michael Guy Jr (called Joel Michael by family), who traveled from Baton Rouge. He had dropped out of LSU there in 2015. He would be staying a couple days at his parent’s home for Thanksgiving. This would be the last holiday at the home before Joel Sr and Lisa moved. While both victims were retired, Lisa Guy continued to work only to support her only son, Joel Michael.

2 days after Thanksgiving, on November 26, Joel Michael put a horrible, evil plan into action.

While his unsuspecting mother was out shopping the morning of Nov. 26 at a nearby Walmart, Joel Michael ambushed and stabbed his father to death in the upstairs exercise room, inflicting more than 40 stab wounds on Joel Sr. The amount of blood in the room shows it was a violent, chaotic attack, and that Joel Guy Sr. must have put up a fight. You can see broken window blinds and a nearby torn duvet cover. This is a horrific scene, especially when you look closely at the sheer amount of wild blood spatter everywhere. Joel Sr. fought for his life.

Lisa Guy out shopping at Walmart at around 12:15. This is the last known footage of Lisa Guy alive.

When Lisa Guy came home around 12:30 PM from Walmart, she brought in all the groceries, but they were left untouched in their bags just inside the front door in the foyer. Somehow she was lured upstairs, where she was attacked and stabbed over 30 times at the top of the stairs. Heavy blood soaking and spatter is everywhere on the walls and on the stairs.

The scene where Lisa Guy was ambushed and stabbed to death. Her clothing is in a pile and buckets of drain cleaner sit next to a large bloodstain on the floor.

• Joel Michael then began to dismember the bodies. Joel Guy Sr.’s hands were severed, and his arms were severed at the shoulder blade. His legs were removed at the hip and his right foot was removed. His hands were left in the exercise room on the floor. Lisa Guy’s legs were cut off below the knee and her arms, at the shoulder. Her head was removed. Joel Michael put his parent’s body parts in two large blue Rubbermaid type tubs full of chemicals to dissolve the remains, and, most disturbing of all, he put his mother’s severed head in a large covered cooking pot on the stove with some kind of liquid and turned the heat on to simmer.

In spite of all this, Joel Michael could not finish the job he had started because of his injuries, and possibly because he did not anticipate how much work carrying out this murder would be. On Sunday, Nov 27th, he left the house for Baton Rouge, LA, to get his wounds treated at LSU’s clinic. His parent’s remains were still in the chemicals, there were items all over the house related to the dismemberment and disposal of remains. Blood was still all over, and the stove with the pot remained on. The heat in the house was turned up as high as possible.

This was how the scene stayed until Nov 28, when police performed a welfare check and entered the home.

On Nov 28, the alarm was raised. Lisa Guy failed to show up for her job in the accounting department of Jacobs Engineering in Oak Ridge. This was extremely unlike Lisa.

Her boss, Jennifer Whitehead, testified that she called Lisa Guy repeatedly, but got no answer. She said she knew something was wrong, so she called 911 and asked deputies to do a welfare check.

Knox County Sheriff’s Office Detective Jeremy McCord described the scene inside the couple’s home as the “most horrific” thing he’d ever seen. McCord was one of the deputies who conducted the welfare check that day.

The detective found both of the Guys' vehicles in the driveway. Through the glass on the front door, he could see groceries, including perishable items, on the floor of the foyer.

Outside the back door, which was missing a doorknob, he could feel heat emanating from the house, along with a “really odd chemical smell.”

He and fellow deputies found a garage door opener in one of the couple’s cars and used it to gain access to the attached garage. When he opened the door leading into the home, the odor hit him. “The smell is never going to leave me,” McCord said.

Lisa Guy's head was found in the pot on the stove, that was simmering in chemicals for 2 days straight.
