Idk about "near universal" many hang themselves, cut themselves to bleed out, self immolation, and electrocution to name a few. None of these would be painless but I think sometimes the spectacle is the objective.

We ASSUME almost everybody wants a painless suicide, but if that were true, why wouldn't almost everybody OD on heroin?
I've recently started to suspect that some people want to punish themselves. Call it guilt or shame or your parents fucked you up so much by telling you for years how much of an awful human being you are - but I think some people want to HURT themselves, as much as end their lives.
How else do you explain people who drink a bottle of insecticide, or bleach, or burn themselves. Those of us who watch these videos KNOW that burning yourself hurts WAY more than people think it will.
