Teenager dies, 'loses' his right leg when two motorbikes collide

KOTA BHARU - A teenager died in horrific circumstances when his right leg was broken after the motorcycle he was riding collided with another motorcycle on Jalan Jerus - Kok Lanas in Kampung Banggol Saman, Pasir Puteh near here yesterday.

In the incident at about 7.30pm, the 17-year-old victim who was out of school died at the scene of the incident, while two 18- and 21-year-old men who were riding another motorcycle were seriously injured.

Pasir Puteh District Police Chief, Superintendent Zaizul Rizal Zakaria said, the investigation found that the victim was riding a Honda RS motorcycle on his way from Kok Lanas to Kota Bharu.

He said that while passing through the road in Kampung Banggol Saman, a Honda EX5 type motorcycle ridden by two men from the opposite direction is believed to have lost control.

"The situation caused the motorcycle to collide with the motorcycle ridden by the victim.

"The accident resulted in the victim being confirmed dead at the scene," he said when met by reporters at the Monthly Gathering Program at the Kelantan Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) here today.

Zaizul said, the victim was then taken to the Forensic Unit of Tengku Anis Hospital (HTA) Pasir Puteh for an autopsy.

He said, two more seriously injured motorcyclists were sent to Machang Hospital and Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital, Kubang Kerian respectively for further treatment. – COSMO! ONLINE

A mysterious tragedy occurred at the "Monkey Republic" hostel in Kampot, Cambodia, in November 2017, when two women died in their dorm rooms, believed to be the result of taking poor-quality medication. The pair were identified as a 22-year-old former accounts manager from Shefford, Bedfordshire, England, and a 27-year-old former teacher and Apple Store employee from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Both had apparently quit their jobs in order to focus on taking a backpacking tour through Asia.

The exact circumstances behind the pair's demise remain unclear, but according to local provincial police, and the guesthouse's owner, Lee Verlander, the two women were suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea, believed to be a result of food poisoning. According to text messages sent by the British woman, their vomit was coloured yellow and dark green. Other backpackers bought them food and drink to alleviate their symptoms, but the hostel was in a remote location with no hospital nearby. At some point, they got their hands on some medication, which was apparently of dodgy quality. A local villager drove the women to a local doctor, but by then they had passed out, and they were apparently taken back to the hostel, where they were found dead a few hours later.

Upon investigation, unidentified white tablets were found strewn all over the floor. Most likely this was over-the-counter medication, although why a whole bunch of them were scattered on the ground is not clear. An autopsy on the British woman found evidence of liver damage caused by "drug toxicity", but ultimately, an "open verdict" was ruled, basically meaning that the cause of death, and the circumstances leading up to it, could not be ascertained with certainty.

I don't have any information on what happened to this unfortunate geezer. This was posted on a Brazilian forensics website back in 2014 with the caption "Severe crushing injuries" (no shit, Sherlock). There doesn't seem to be any tread marks on the body, so maybe a steamroller got to him? Who knows.

Sihanoukville, 2016. A British couple were found blindfolded and hanged in a Cambodian guesthouse, just a week after secretly marrying. The deceased were identified as a 36-year-old man (originally of Sunderland), and a 28-year-old woman (originally of Camberwell, South London). A joint suicide note was found nearby, in which the couple blamed their struggles with bipolar disorder, depression, and Asperger's Syndrome, plus the failings of the National Health Service in the UK. A couple of notebooks and memory cards were found wrapped in a plastic container, with a request to send it to the woman's mother.

Cambodian media sources initially pointed out a possibility of murder, given that the pair were found blindfolded with their hands tied behind their back. However, family members of the man apparently confirmed, based on handwriting, that he had written the suicide note, and after an examination of the room and the bodies, suicide was ruled as cause of death - although no explanation was given for the blindfolds or tied hands.

Slovakia. A newly widowed 79-year-old man was found dead in front of the garage of his family home, lying in a supine position between a running circular table saw and a pile of sawn wooden pallets. There was a heavy pool of blood around his head and neck. A workbench and the floor underneath the saw showed a distinct pattern of blood spatter consistent with its having originated from the position of the circular saw blade.

Evaluation of the body revealed multiple gaping, saw-type wounds of the neck and face. The head showed complete amputation of the upper skull associated with extruded portions of the brain on the floor within a radius of approximately 2.5 m (8.2 ft) from the decedent's head.

There were no obvious signs of intervention by a third party, forced entry, or a struggle. The decedent had no history of suicidal declarations, psychiatric problems, or alcohol abuse. According to the relatives, however, several days prior to his death, he exhibited bizarre, non-talkative behavior. No suicidal note was found. He was formerly employed as a locksmith.

Cause of death was determined to be brain evisceration after complete amputation of the upper skull. Following completion of the investigations and autopsy, the death was classified as a suicide. The suicide motive was most likely emotional distress after the recent death of his wife.
