Damn. This is what happens if you don't read your animals body language. That horse was pissed as fuck the moment the girl came closer the second time. The warning was subtle but it was there.

Poor child. I hope it survived. One blow of those hoves can kill a grown adult easily as well.

The ears are definitly giving it away for sure. Hope the poor kid is ok, I'm always wary about people leaving kids that close to animals without being next to them themselves. Shit can go south real fast especially with big animals like a horse.

Exactly this. I don't have children but I'd be so pessimistic about any kind of animal. Or at least make sure my kids know their body language. A cat smacking you if you annoy it isn't the same as a kick from an irritated horse.

You’re absolutely right. I still can’t wrap my head around how people can voluntarily sit on horses in competition or such… horses have so much power they can literally kill you with a single kick. The only creatures that impress me even more are polar bears…. They are so incredibly powerful it’s insane. Oh and dinosaurs. I would love to hang out with a T Rex sometime ! They are the real ultimate predators

grew up around horses. they’re intelligent, feeling beasts. they know who is kind to them and who is not. win a horse’s trust and you’ve found who you can trust. some are meaner than others, just like people. my best horse bud adores me, will snuggle like a big dog. they’re kind creatures if you’re kind to them, and even the mean and fierce horses can have their trust gained. i only ride horses i trust, because they’ve proven they care about me. any time i’ve fallen, my horse has immediately stopped and usually bent down to check on me- sniffing and nudging like a worried dog. kind beasts, scary if you fuck with em. had one horse who would get moody and false buck when he was tired and hungry. he would stop short just inches from someone’s face. he did it to me once, and then trotted off to his stall. scary as fuck, learned to respect the hungry man’s time.

respect boundaries, carry treats. thats how you can trust horses.

Pro Tip: Leave animals alone when they're eating. It doesn't matter if it's a wild animal or domesticated, every animal has some level of instinctual urge to be more protective of itself while it's eating. It's literally one of the times when it's at its most vulnerable.
