Serena McKay, a 19-year-old high school student, was beaten and left outside to die by two schoolmates on Sagkeeng First Nation. Graphic videos of the attack were later shared on social media. One of the women there was 20 years old, who cannot be named at the time of the crime, was one of two teens convicted in the death of Serena McKay in april 2017. A pathologist testified during the trial of the accused girls that McKay likely died of hypothermia, unable to seek protection from the cold because of her injuries and the amount of alcohol in her system.

And as a result, assaults among these people are VERY common - and I often see the real down and out drunks with MANY bruises on their faces.
There was actually a great TV series last year, or early in 2023 that focused on violence against native (Canadian) women - and the statistics are shocking. Many have been killed.
These two women are very likely to live short brutal lives of desperation.
And the violence in the community is shocking. One night, I saw two native guys attack about 8 different people in about a 5 minute period - and one of those guys doing the assaulting was about 6 foot 5 inches, and close to 300 pounds.
