The evening of Sunday 1st in São João do Sóter, 55 km from Caxias, was marked by violence and revolt.
Around 6 p.m., the merchant Otimar Rios, from 49 years old, known as Pretinho, resident of Avenida Esperança (in the upper part, near the CAPS), he was preparing to close his establishment. Two men came on a motorcycle and announced a robbery. Residents believe that he tried to react and then was shot in the forehead and dying. The bandits took nothing.
The two thugs fled after the murder, but were quickly reached by the police of São João do Soter in the village of São São Joseph. While leading the men to the police, the police faced with a mob revolted at the death of Otimar. The people succeeded in lynching one, causing his death. The other was also very injured and was taken to the Municipal Hospital Clodomir Rocha. The crowd, made up of about 2,000 people, surrounded the hospital. The revolt of the people occurred because Pretinho was a person dear to everyone, a serious man, married, hardworking, good conduct. Information says that the two men are from the village of São Paulo dos Pretos ( Vila São Paulo), municipality of Senador Alexandre Costa.
