Man suffers seizure and dies after getting whacked in the head with shovel in land dispute. Honduras, 6 April 2024

A young man lost his life on Saturday after receiving a severe blow to the head during a land dispute in the mountain of Azacualpa, east of Francisco Morazán.

The man was identified as Kevin Garay, 23 years old, who died in the Hospital Escuela as a result of the strong blow he received from a supposedly purged policeman who, according to preliminary data, was upset with the measurement of the land.

A video recorded by the victim's partner shows how the attacker -with a shovel in his hand- hit him in the head.

The young man reportedly had a brain seizure after the blow, so his relatives quickly took him to the health care center. However, the authorities announced his death today in the afternoon.

Agents of the National Police were present at the scene to investigate the incident and apprehend the person responsible.

The detainee - identified as Fabricio Zerón (32 years old), former officer of the National Police - has already been presented before the corresponding prosecutor's office to face charges of murder against Kevin Garay.

UMEP-4 continues its diligent and dedicated work to guarantee the security of the population in the areas under its responsibility.

Land makes people almost as savage as money.

That's why communes and cooperatives are better, it doesn't belong to no one in reality. Kibbutz are based on this... Ultimate solution to rural housing.

Or due process and efficient bureaucracies, which don't take away your rights to private property

The problem is that land can't really be owned, even in the US people is realizing that is all a formal permit to build and develop a given amount of acreage. It should all be communal as it tends to happen in Spain and ask for permissions to do any given construction. By the way, I don't believe in communism.

:nerd: nothing is ever owned by that logic

Yeah pretty much, except money which is a value agreed upon based on any given type of equity and equivalents.

Rural areas in Spain are much more tightly controlled by "los ayuntamientos". Anything deemed as grazing land is handled like that. Other types of plots enjoy a more free treatment.

Ayuntamiento is just a mayorship. You're talking about a specific arrangement that exists only for shared cattle farming, these communal plots don't even form the full ammount of land these cattle graze out of.

don't even form the full ammount of land

Is not correct. Should be "...don't conform most of the land ..."

Many areas have the "tierras comunales" classification, it doesn't have to be an "Ayuntamiento," it could be another entity. I put the example of grazing because aside these entities, leasing is extremely common and management of private property is more or less communal: the community uses it on a regular basis. Most of Spain is communal/public property anyway, as far as I know.

I'll bet my left testicle it doesnt even reach 10% of agricultural land. It is also only done in certain areas

That's the point... In terms of land you don't really own anything, it's just a lease you buy for a life time.

In South America there is usually a "whoever claims the land (with certain acreage limit) owns it" type of legislation, it really doesn't matter what you build as a house.
