Denny was a truck driver who was pulled from his truck and beaten nearly to death by urban youths during the 1992 Los Angeles riots. He was a completely uninvolved innocent bystander attempting to make a truck delivery to a factory in Inglewood when rioters threw rocks at his truck and forced him to stop. They then pulled him out and beat the shit out of him for over five minutes. One of the attackers threw a cinderblock at his head and then danced and flashed gang signs at the news helicopter overhead as Denny bled out on the pavement.

Denny's skull was fractured in 91 places and he still has a dent in his forehead today. He needed years of rehabilitation therapy afterwards and his speech and mobility have never returned to normal, although he now works as a boat mechanic in Arizona.

The four main attackers were Damian Williams, Henry Watson, Antoine Miller, and Gary Williams.

Damian Williams was the one who threw the cinderblock at Denny's head. He was charged with attempted murder, but a jury acquitted him and he was only convicted of misdemeanor charges. He was paroled from prison after 4 years. After being paroled, Damian was convicted of second degree murder in 2003 for a killing he committed in 2000. He is still in prison for that crime to this day.

Watson received a time-served sentence because of a previous narcotics conviction and served no jail time for his part in the attack.

Miller, who opened Denny's truck door and allowed him to be pulled out, served 17 months. Miller was shot and killed at a nightclub in 2004.

Gary Williams was convicted of theft for stealing Denny's wallet as he lay dying on the ground and served three years in prison.
