correct me if im wrong but there is still blood in your brain for a little while after you a beheaded, doesn't this mean you are conscious for at least a couple of seconds after? and yes i know there are many reasons why his eyes could be moving

Typically, those being beheaded experience blood loss for longer than 10 seconds, which means they don't experience most of it, but this man was beheaded immediately, so it is theoretically possible that he was aware for a few seconds, albeit in a disoriented state. Cases in which victims moved their facial muscles were more commonly reported when the guillotine was in use, a device that decapitated its subject instantly, allowing for several seconds of potential consciousness; likewise, for one killed by a guillotine, this man's decapitation was quick, so it is possible that he was alive. Although it could have been a subconscious relaxing of the oculomotor muscles, which generally control the eyes, it seems phenomena similar to this are only recorded when one is beheaded in less than 10 seconds, the time it takes for one to completely lose consciousness after oxygenated blood stops flowing to the brain.
