8 seconds to be exact. that's the time the brain can function properly without oxygenated blood .

"Consciousness is typically lost at a PaO2 of less than 30 mm Hg within 6 to 8 seconds if there is complete cessation of cerebral circulation and a few seconds later if there is continued circulation in the absence of oxygen. Continued hypoxia results in a loss of brainstem reflexes and loss of motor responses."

Yup. I reckon that was directly into the ventricle or aorta.

It's nice to see an attacker who understand anatomy (or got lucky. But, I wanna give him some credit).

Is that high pitched sound around 0:02 air pressure from his heart evacuating?

could be, could also be the knife going through him and scratching his chain

So do i target the trachea or arteries for chokes?

Jump in the discussion.

The carotid arteries.

Block the trachea, the brain still has oxygenated blood being supplied to it for a reasonably large period of time, akin to holding your breath.

Block the carotids, and the brains primary source of oxygenation ceases immediately.

Can they still breath after i block the carotids?

Depends on how you're doing it.

Often, the trachea will be compressed also. However, if you're compressing both carotid arteries, they'll lose consciousness in about 10 seconds regardless.

So for instance, i dont know if youre familiar with martial arts grappling, but say i do a rear naked choke, i should put the inside of my elbow on his trachea i mean the front of the neck, and my forearm and bicep squeeze the carotids, and if i want him to feel more pain i can pull my elbow towards me so it targets the trachea aswell?

I'm not familiar with martial arts, just anatomy.

However, from what you describe, that would likely work.

Appreciate the information bro, thank you

Jugulars. And throat if you can.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Carotid arteries. Not jugulars.

The jugulars are veins, thus, don't carry oxygenated blood to the brain.

Sorry, that's what I meant.

Jugulars and carotids are near each other right? Targeting this also targets that

Unarmed, stabbed through his heart and chasing a guy with a knife who's fleeing in his mere presence until the last oxygen molecule in his blood had been spent .

Absolute chad, RIP dude.

In situations like this i highly doubt he had any chance of feeling pain. It all happens too fast, not to mention the adrenaline. Poor dude

Many people don't even realise they've been stabbed, or the extent of the injury. Often, it may just feel like a dull punch.

Knives are more intimidating than guns sometimes. One slice/stab is all it takes.

But a .45 ACP to the temple is also all what it takes

In terms of the point of injury, knives are often less lethal than guns.

Knives tear tissue at the point of impact. That's it. Bullets cause a LOT of damage to surrounding structures via shockwaves/ricochets, depending on the caliber.
