Sad to see the trend of violence that has plagued that country since it's "naissance". My grandma's a black Haitian who had to flee due to some official in Duvalier's government sexually harassing her to the point that she fled to PR, and she's told me so many horror stories. The Haitian Revolution was bloody as hell, the pre-revolution massacre of black Haitians and post-revolution massacre of the white population was not wanted by the people and it just served to set a violent precedent to how things would be handled. It's a country that has suffered generations upon generations of trauma: slavery, genocide of Afro-Haitians by the French, genocide of Euro-Haitians by Dessalines, violent coups throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, and constant conflict between the "Ancien Regime" mulatto elite and the new Afro-Elite. I wouldn't even know how to start solving all these fractures between Haitian people, it just saddens me to see how such an otherwise beautiful nation has fallen to corruption and violence as the go-to solutions for problems.
