I grew up in Mexico City and it took me many years of living abroad to realize how third world it is.
Most homes with hot water have a water boiler in the home with a pilot flame that goes off every now and then causing gas leaks. It’s not uncommon for homes to have multiple gas tanks around to avoid running out.
Most businesses and homes don’t have connections to gas lines and are forced to periodically receive gas orders in order to operate. Some of this gas is delivered via old and improperly maintained tanks and others get it via trucks and stored in reservoirs on or around the property like you see here.
Gas leaks and gas fires are not uncommon in Mexico as a result.
