Ever wonder how dead bodies are cremated?

Before your body turns into ashes, you will be burnt inside a furnace called cremation machine.

It had to be done this way to completely dispose dead bodies.

I got to watch the funeral home push my father into the retort.

And then I watched it burn for an hour.

Thats the first time ive ever seen a body being cremated. I know typically the bones dont burn so they will grind them on occasion. And from what i hear, youre likely to get remnants of other peoples ashes. I had to attach some guide wires on a smoke stack at a crematorium years ago. I was holding onto the stack to balance myself and it was still warm, afterwards i had black residue on my hands. It was eerie.

That’s super old fashioned.

I’m not sure which country this is, but I used to be an undertaker in the UK and the crematorium had very modern facilities. When I brought the paperwork in the secretary used to ask “Smoking or Non-Smoking?” meaning was the body to be burnt or buried?

You couldn’t open the door while in use as the flame they used to burn the coffin and bodies was more like an afterburner from a jet fighter.

There was a very small window which you used to see the progress of the burn, but this was already ten years ago so I’m sure things have progressed even more in that time.

I come from a Buddhist family, and cremation is a vital part of my family culture. My maternal grandfather and grandmother were both cremated, and my mom and her two sisters (my aunts) plan to get cremated once they pass away in the coming decades. I plan to get cremated too once I pass away in the far future. The way my culture sees it, cremation is still returning your essence to nature and is a very clean way of doing so.

Different cultures value different ways of disposing the dead. Just because you think cremation sucks doesn’t mean that is a fact. Learn cultural relativism.

I'd rather donate my organs then get cremated.

I'd rather rot right where I died undisturbed without ceremony preferably in nature

Russian army has (had) 13 mobile crematory trucks in ukraine.

It took a lot of diesel to burn a body so they had problems with supply.

There was apparently crematory stuff behind the lines early on. I am guessing the fuel thing is a joke though as the supply issues were well larger than that sort of thing.

they passed off videos of garbage disposal systems as "mobile crematoriums" i dont buy any of that shit for a second especially since thats the only "proof" ever provided

Fair enough. Suppose was an easy enough thing to believe given all the examples of conscripts early on who got driven into combat not knowing what was happening.
