Theres a youtube video about this that explains the backstory. All i know is that the guy is the kid's father, and they got fucked up because he was selling information. He was a "chapulin" (someone that switches sides, and/or aids the enemy with information). It might be easy for someone of us to say, "well, why did he snitch?". But when you're being threaten by a rival cartel to give them information or your life, you dont have a lot of options. Im sure most of us, given the situation, would also give them information if they spare us and our family. Unfortunately for this guy, he got caught and paid in agony.

Aside from killing a potential enemy in the future, there really isn't any point in killing the boy after his father is dead, and they're definitely isn't any point in torturing him.
