Most Turks are VERY competent in the field, the Kurds (Pkk I assume) own these mountains like another comment said and also know what they’re doing,

this could happen to any soldier of any army.

That said the Turks know this, too. Sticking to their single file patrol seemingly unconcerned is a mistake that cost some their lives. What's probably even worse though is that quite a few Turks got away. I'm not a Kurdish militia fighter and I don't know what their orders or objectives are. But personally I would not let them escape. Because they will come back with backup and now they know your favorite spot and your tactics.

How do they ambush them? Don't the Turks have drones? Surely this isn't the first time this has happened

The Kurds are very good at guerrilla warfare and know those mountains well.
