It’s not all about attention, 90% of the time it is tho. I personally have done it since I was 13 (not frequently, just have over the years) and it wasn’t about attention. I get so down that I want the endorphins and I feel like I’m “bleeding out the pain”. I keep it hidden except for a few years back where I actually attempted suicide with a big slit down my forearm.

As the saying goes “ you go across the street for attention, and you go down the road to seek the end”
