You can absolutely get sucked into a jet engine. I worked on the flightline in the AF and there are 2 rules that are absolute 1. Pay attention to where you are and where everything else is at all times and 2. NEVER walk in front of the intake of a jet that is running.

Those things will suck you in like you're a bit of dust and the suction only gets more powerful with the larger engines of airlines. Though with fighter jets we also had to be aware of the hydraulic flaps all over jet because before take off the pilots have to work the flaps to make sure they all function and have full range of motion and since we are right there finishing prep for take off right before they taxi we ran the risk of catching a hydraulic flap to the head and face and it was almost always curtains if you took it to the Dome full on. Also those discharge spikes took out some eyes of idiots who didn't follow rule #1.
