„More than 11,000 people have been told to evacuate and air travel in the region has been disrupted after a volcano in northern Indonesia erupted multiple times.
Mount Ruang, located in North Sulawesi Province, first erupted at 9:45pm (13:45 GMT) on Tuesday, sending billowing clouds of smoke and ash high into the sky.”

For interested peeps:
Basically what happened is, the volcano throws up ash and tiny bits of rock into the air while erupting. When all these things rub against each other, they create static electricity (just like when you rub your feet on a carpet and then get shocked from touching a doorknob). That electricity can get really strong because there's so much stuff crashing together. Eventually, it has to go somewhere, so it zaps from one place to another as lightning. It's like natures way of balancing things out up there in the cloud. Volcanic lightning make great wallpapers.
