Personally ive heard of two different ideas that i like.

1. Once you die, whatever in your mind you believe heaven is like that's what you'll go to. So like a basic christian believes in heaven and hell and the rules to go by to get into heaven. If their rules didnt match it theyll go to hell but if they followed what they believed would get you into heaven then they get to be reunited with family and such and whatever they think heaven is like.

2. You restart your life over, and thats why we get deja vu, is because in your last life you did the same thing and thats why its so familiar that youve done this before. People have different opinions on the reason you keep reliving your life, like you didnt end it the way you truly wanted it to end or thats just how life is. You get one life and keep relieving it without remembering, fully, your previous life.
