To be fair i used to sit in water like that because it was buoyant and the sounds found funny but that was a really long time of them not checking on him

Yeah but I don't think it's wise to give a child that benefit of the doubt. I'd probably tell him not to even do that because it could make it hard to tell whether he's fine or drowning
